Hi all. YEP - here I go again!  ???

I thought it might be fun to try and use several of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's Poetry snippets and form a new poem using partial lines from his various poems.

I will supply the lines. You can use them as the beginning of a line or mix them up as long as the snippets remain intact. Good luck!

Here are the snippets you must use in your poem (in any order). Feel free to rhyme or write free verse or any other type of poetry style to your liking!
There are 12 snippets. You must use at least 8.

Cheers and good luck!

flames of gold
death's unholy glow
Oh how they shone
adorns the fairest face
that sweet dream
with downcast eyes
all memory of
like the snow-flakes
this beauteous summer night
On laden twigs
sorrow and sadness
hear the melodies

HALLELUJAH !

May this beauteous summer night
last a whole lifetime through
Unlike the snow-flakes
that fall in the cold

While the spring in one's step
bans all sorrow and sadness;
death's unholy glow
, barely in memory,
is banished for aye, for we never grow old.

Oh how they shone, before me those smiles;
each adorns the fairest face that I've ever seen,
with hope, and joy, their trust in the Faith,
to burnish all memory of those flames of gold.

Approach not that sweet dream with sadness my friend,
with downcast eyes or with glances so mean;
eat of the fruit, bounteous, on laden twigs, to your fill,
hear the melodies of your seasons so bold.

Alan McAlpine Douglas

Goethe's phrases used :

this beauteous summer night
like the snow-flakes
sorrow and sadness
death's unholy glow
Oh how they shone
adorns the fairest face

all memory of
flames of gold
that sweet dream
on laden twigs
with downcast eyes
hear the melodies

Flames of Gold

With downcast eyes they do not see
a life so bright: hear the melody
of spirits dancing on the wings
in flames of gold this treasure brings.

If I could hold just one -- my plea,
my love I’d offer endlessly.
We’d share our faith by blood boundless
prolonging moments, I would bless.

In that sweet dream you’d come to me
on laden twigs of carriage glee,
a harpsichord of newborn life
adorns the fairest face of strife…

I find solace in churchyard sea
where waves of souls inspirit me;
in death’s unholy glow there shines
serenity in mem’ries shrines.

With downcast eyes they do not see
a life so bright: hear the melody
of spirits dancing on the wings --
in flames of gold this treasure brings

EPHEMERAL

Sorrow and sadness adorn the fairest face
when that sweet dream melts like the snow-flakes
scorched by flames of gold, death's unholy glow.

Oh how they shone, this beauteous
summer night
, until with downcast eyes
you hear the melodies presaging death.

You run, footsteps on laden twigs
like claps of thunder, all memory of dance and joy,
of future crushed, the greatest loss of all.

A very interesting take on these snippets Alan.

I'm hoping to stir the muse this weekend and look forward to reading (and hopefully) writing more responses. writersblock.gif

AESTHETIC SHOCK

My generation is cynically aging,
we're confused by what we see,
can't fathom this free art form,
taking taste to a twisted degree.

Tramp stamps and nipple rings,
sexual lures or rites of passage?
Openly displayed and not obscure,
no longer shunned to a backstage.

With downcast eyes we strain,
painfully to view these emblems
that sweet dreams generated
but now are eternal problems.

Vile flames of gold emblazon,
adorning the fairest faces,
some with sorrow and sadness
that a wild crazy color erases.

Snakes, skulls, devils, dragons,
signs of death's unholy glow,
oh they shone in an evil way,
all memory of a circus sideshow.

Discretion inhibits their spirit,
demure demeanor is long passé,
illustrated badges are prized,
a garish style they now convey.

Mainstream culture tempers
it's long held staid perspectives
as a butterfly, flower or angel
may grace menopausal fugitives.

Is it mid-life crisis or rebellion?
Do they seek a unique identity
to revere, admire or just flaunt?
Is this the new call for dignity?

Snippets used (in order of appearance): with downcast eyes, that sweet dream, flames of gold, adorn the fairest face, sorrow and sadness, death's unholy glow, oh how they shone, all memory of

Well done John!

Sad, but how the generation of today is soooooo different! Unique? Yeah, I guess that would be a word of choice.

My fav:
Snakes, skulls, devils, dragons,
signs of death's unholy glow,
oh they shone in an evil way,
all memory of a circus sideshow.

Enjoyed,
~Cleo

Same here - 7 years is too long to leave a challenge lying around.

Ashes to Ashes

Hot flames of gold will burn the skin and bone
while darkening a death’s unholy glow
with cleansing fire. Educe “Oh how they shone!”
Faint smile adorns the fairest face we know

but it too fades along with that sweet dream.
We leave with downcast eyes which will forget
all memory of tears but they still team
on faces like the snow-flakes, cold and wet.

Entombed this beauteous summer night, we place
the urn on laden twigs where flowers bloomed.
We feel sorrow and sadness but His grace
has promised us that whom the fires consumed

now lives with Him. We’ll hear the melodies
that angels sing to her when on our knees.

12 snippets used in the order given: flames of gold, death's unholy glow, Oh how they shone,
adorns the fairest face, that sweet dream, with downcast eyes, all memory of, like the snow-flakes,
this beauteous summer night, On laden twigs, sorrow and sadness, hear the melodies

When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the areas of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of his existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

Snippet dee doo duh!

Snippet Song

Like the cherry blossoms pink and white,
like the snow-flakes on a warm spring day,
all memory of Samantha Wright
has vanished, melted, blown away.

Sometimes I hear the melodies
but sorrow and sadness harmonize
extinguishing old flames of gold
and I plod on with downcast eyes.

That sweet dream: lost. It's rent and gone.
A smile adorns the fairest face
but now a scowl is in its place.
A star-filled sky

Non ¢¢¢

All memory of Rose is lost in space;
my woven wreath is hung on laden twigs.
A lily now adorns the fairest face
but what to do with coif and several wigs?

You hear the melodies but pay no heed.
You have that sweet dream time and time again.
You seek with downcast eyes a potent seed
to ease away the sorrow and sadness pain.

Oh how they shone in death's unholy glow
like the snow-flakes falling... falling down upon
this beauteous summer night (not ten below!).
Those flames of gold project a hopeful dawn.

It makes no sense, that stuff that's up above;
methinks my Muse can use a generous shove!
