Inheritance
A Viking Longboat sailed yesterday, out of the mist and into Dublin harbour, shocking dark against the glow of early sunlight. It was one of those morning wonders, in which neon dimmed and car headlights were giant eyes with snake bodies and voices growling; a silence of obscurity. Only the timeless seagulls cried and waters parted. She had no shadow.
It's all contained here, a single jewel under torn concrete, a harsh cry in silence, lap of waves and still reflections. The moon had dimmed, swooping low across the water. Out of the clouds, a sea dragon roared and plunged with grace. No longer a mystical cliche but something that could have been more than a myth.
Poetry left us on such plunging ships, to return so familiar we never recognised that we fought once to deny we ever wanted it. Watching the sun burn away its shroud of fog, it's easy to deny moments of knowing nothing, and seeing everything. Dreams belong entirely to unconscious minds, that see beyond barriers, back to where changes began so suddenly, we built cities on them.
