CHRISTMAS : THE ROAD RUNNER’S RACE IS RUN

As Wile E., last coyote, I am legend :
the chase is all. Wild fire, a boom,
a crash, a rock, the nine and ninety ways
that plumb lucky bird
will have a family Christmas
and I the darkest evening of the year, again,
under “The Giving Tree”

Still, I can dream : 90 minutes in heaven,
my halo slipping only slightly
as just in time, my scheme
to bring home to “Holly Springs”
by judicious application
of Acme’s Holy Smokes,
the bacon, or rather, that bird, comes true

Wile E. Coyote,
a.k.a. Alan McAlpine Douglas

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the clever take. I can see our hapless coyote next to his acme green tree with a scrawny road runner drumstick.

Dear Lori and Don,

Thank you both. Don, I wrote this as a book title challenge, using all 15 titles, then realised it would also make an entry here, tho not in all seriousness !

Love
Alan

Hi Alan;

Your poem is especially funny for those of us fortunate enough to have watched the escapades of Wile E. and the Roadrunner. I enjoyed the flashbacks you've depicted so well. One 'nit'... I think (S1L4) plum should be plum [b]. Not sure of your meaning, if it's a reference to fruit, then plum is correct.

Dear 4rum,

You are actually 100 % correct, now that you mention it. "Plum lucky" is one of the book titles given in challenge # 24, so it went in as that, and it never occurred to me it was wrong. Since this is not the challenge anymore, I will amend.

The Coyote is my hero - no matter WHAT befalls him (literally) he gets right on up and on with his mission. He has stood me well as a model in life - I have a 3ft one in my study.

Thanks
Love
Alan

Love the wonderful humor and the road to reminiscing in this cute poetic endeavor! All my childhood I waited and hoped and plotted with Wile E. to catch that blamed sneaky heart stopping menace...although now looking back, he could have saved a ton of money and stress ordering take out...but it wouldn't have been funny then...love this tribute.

Dear Pami,

So sorry, I did not know you had commented here. My apologies for not responding sooner. As I say above, he is my hero, so I'm glad you share my passion !

Love
Alan
