Hello everyone! I’m Altay. I am from New York City, grew up in Istanbul, and live in London. I am 33 and Turkish-American. I have been writing poetry for myself all my life and finally decided to share it. I like to write about life, emotions and spirituality. As a poet I have been influenced a lot by Sufi poets, such as Rumi and Khayyam. Check out my poems on the forum postings. And if you like them you can find more in my first poetry book The Spirit & The Stone . It has 40 poems of my favourite poems about doubt, loss, faith, self-discovery and the spiritual journeys in between. You can preview, download or order The Spirit & The Stone at http://www.lulu.com/content/paperback-book...e-stone/7311263 . Looking forward to sharing with you all on this site! The best! Altay

Hi Altay, welcome to MM!
Thank you for giving us a picture of your life and poetical aspirations. These sound highly interesting, so do please post some of your poems in the forums.
First read about the different forums, because we mainly offer critiques & commentaries, so if you don't want to participate in any workshopping, there are spaces where you can just post polished pieces for exhibition.
You may post one poem first, then make comments or critiques of two other poets' works before posting another of your own. Always leave at least a day in between postings, to give you time to answer members' commentaries, or to thank them and make revisions if you like their suggestions.
Step in, make yourself at home!
Sylvia

Hello Altay and WELCOME TO MM!
You've certainly got an interesting background which I think must help you in your writings.
We offer honest, yet friendly feedback in our workshopping forums so I do hope you'll find yourself at home here, once you settle into your own groove-thing and start interacting (we don't bite). There are many members here with different skill levels and technique, which makes MM more comfortable, diverse and challenging if you become so inclined in your poetic journey.
There's plenty to delve into, so please, wander our halls, take in our colorful 'tiles' and join in the fun. If you would be so kind, one of the first things we ask is to share a bit of your goals with us. What type of poetry do you enjoy writing most and are there certain forms you often write in? Shall I assume the level of critique you would like to receive on your topics is 'light' to start (until we both learn what is desired)?
Each forum has its own 'forum participation rules' posted in a link at the top of the forums, so please have a read of them: http://forums.mosaicmusings.net/index.php?showtopic=8574 .
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me or any of our staff (AMETHYST, Arnfinn, Eisa, JLY, ohsteve, Psyche and Imhotep).

You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to." ~ J.R.R Tolkien, The Lord of the RingsCollaboration feeds innovation. In the spirit of workshopping, please revisit those threads you've critiqued to see if the author has incorporated your ideas, or requests further feedback from you. Welcome Altay, Interestingly, I've recommended Khayam and Rumi to you in a different thread before reading this I've got the Avery & Heath-Stubbs translation published by Penguin Books, adorned with Persian painting reproductions. This book is like a precious jewel. Do you read English & American poets? Who? Mark

Hi Mark
I certainly do! A fan of Shakespeare's sonnets. Langston Hughes (A Dream Deferred especially) and Dylan Thomas (esp. Do Not Go Gentle) among others. Thanks for your book tips on this and other posts!
All the best
Altay
