A Promise Kept
On Christmas day, just after morning mass, Old Pastor Paul espied the grounds around the churchyard lawn.
He looked upon the grass and checked the manger set; and what he found was three wooden wisemen still bearing gifts in hand, a lamb, the drummer boy a northern star, and the virgin mother Mary, all sitting alone. And one empty cradle-with baby Jesus gone.
Confused, he raced about in search for the new born king- Through dorm and aisle, across the field, above and beneathe most everything. He investigated each little nook, and cranie, hoping to discover the statue undercover. He'd stop at nothing, he'd never yield, till baby Jesus was recovered.
That's when, he saw a little boy- strolling all alone. He pulled a wagon close behind, and within it layed the missing figurine, as comfy as can be.
The man of cloth approached the boy, and asked- "Where did you get the child?" The boy, all bright and cheery, smiled, "from the church one block over." Then Pastor Paul, replied- "and why have you taken him?" The child, bearing the biggest grin started to explain-
"Last week, I prayed to baby Jesus that on this Christmas day-If I should wake to a red, Radio Flyer, Wagon, I'd give him a ride around the corner." The Father sighed, "Ah, and no one should break a promise!"

Hey Grace,
Yes, with my brain dead, museless mind I took a joke and rewrote it with my own little touches and although it was supposed to be a Sonnet, it just seemed to work. GLad you liked it. I know what you mean...around the holidays, we get dozens of calls of missing mangers and Baby Jesus' and even 2 dollars canes missing from lawns. Nothing is sacred anymore.
Hugs, Liz
Hi Nina, Yes thank you. That little "Promise to be kept' part was my own addition to the actual joke, and the names and identities have been changed to protect the innocent. LOL
Hugs, Liz
Hey Mrs Santa...
No shame here... you dun good... I am still laughing over your entry. Thanks for the most needed gift anyone could ever give. :) A hearty laugh and pleasure.
Hugs, Lizarelli
Hi Marcia,
Thank you. Yes, I do agree--I have been reading them and have been over joyed and quite impressed with the talents that I've witnessed-I do not envy the judges. This is going to be one difficult task to handle.
Big Hugs, Liz

Hi Amethyst ! :sun:
This is a lovely poem, and I was so relieved that the good priest took it all so well... :cloud9:
Yes, promises must be kept. You've expressed lots of Christmas spirit with humorous and original imagery.
