The night was dark, in pale twilight lit,
although the moon was full, all but a small bit
was obscured by cloud, and one would strive
to see their way, but then the night came alive
with the sound of horses, and the tramp of feet
as men in measured pace, came down the street!
Some folks were quick to grasp what was taking place,
whilst others confused, watched with ashen face
most of the more timid inhabitants were seen
to cringe behind drapes drawn tight. A scene
that caused some to cry out - terror struck!
Knowing the foreign invaders, would run amuck,
as they terrorised with sword and fearsome cries!
Their arrival, was unseen under the violet skies
of stormy clouds, whilst the loud hum of wind
rising to a shriek, as they had earlier determined,
had muffled the noise of the Legion that came
to subjugate. and wider spread Rome’s fame!

Words used in order: pale, twilight, strive,
horses, tramp pace, grasp, cringe, violet, hum.

Hi Denis! Snowflake.gif
Don't worry at all about how or where you post your poems. No administrators around, hardly any moderators (just Eira and myself)... and a few members returning slowly as the snow comes down hard in the N.H.
As I live in the S.H., we're enjoying beautiful Spring days. Summer is almost here, on December 21st. Fortunately, I live far enough south for the summers to be agreeable, although with climate change we're getting some higher temps than normal.

I was just a bit mystified as to where you'd found the words. So if you were digging into the Archives, it's not likely that'll I'll be checking out your source LOL... Lori arranged the Archives so that all that work would not be lost, which was a great idea. Threads were getting far too long, so some snipping was needed. Nonetheless, as you yourself say, there's a rich collection waiting for somebody like you to delve into and allow us to enjoy your amusing rhymes.

Yep, we all need to polish our brain cells nowadays! Nothing better than these word challenges to keep 'em busy.

And before I forget, I heartily congratulate you on your 62nd. wedding anniversary. I believe you mentioned it in another thread. That's Monday 19th., right? Please extend my blessings to your dear wife. May both of you celebrate this special day, along with your family, if you have some living nearby.
I hope all your dreams and projects come true in this new year together.

Looking forward to your poem using W.S.'s snippets. He's also my idol. When I was at school, I knew many of his characters' monologues by heart. I loved the dark ones, such as Macbeth's and Hamlet's! Also Lady Macbeth's!

Cheers,

The Lord replied, my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.

"There is no life higher than the grasstops
Or the hearts of sheep, and the wind
Pours by like destiny, bending
Everything in one direction."

Sylvia Plath, Crossing the Water, Wuthering Heights.
