The Gate

Though some discerning eyes perhaps would see
fair woodland track where wayward feet had led;
I, realizing in my reverie,
had trodden where pale rainbows might have wed.

Chimerical in mien, its sparkling hues
regaled the eyes through lavender’s embrace
from blooms piled on the path. They covered shoes
and footprints left behind without a trace.

Wisteria had crowned each ancient tree
and gifted them with robes, now shimmering
in errant sunbeams; golden panoply
was heralding the pageantry of Spring

but elderly, I comprehend my fate.
The path I’d found led to a pearly gate.

Words used: discerning, wayward, trodden, chimerical, sparkling, lavender, shimmering, spring, elderly

When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the areas of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of his existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

Hi Syl,

Glad you finally visited this little niche of the forums. I dearly love the challenges and shall continue trying my best to answer each one. FV is great when doing these because it gives one more freedom and is not nearly as difficult.

If someone wants to put up a challenge, I'll be glad to answer poetically or otherwise. Just let me know the parameters involved and I shall meet or exceed them to the best of my abilities. They are a wonderful goad to the old muse.

Larry

p.s. Don't want to see the pearly gates any time soon either.

No, indeed, the pearly gates can remain metaphorical, as far as I'm concerned!!

Hey, you've given me an idea for the next challenge. sun.gif

Take care,

The Lord replied, my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.

"There is no life higher than the grasstops
Or the hearts of sheep, and the wind
Pours by like destiny, bending
Everything in one direction."

Sylvia Plath, Crossing the Water, Wuthering Heights.
