Hi all. YEP - here I go again!  :)

I thought it might be fun to try and use several of Sylvia Plath's Poetry snippets and form a new poem using partial lines from her various poems.

I will supply the lines. You can use them as the beginning of a line or mix them up as long as the snippets remain intact. Good luck!

Here are the snippets you must use in your poem (in any order). Feel free to rhyme or write free verse or any other type of poetry style to your liking!
There are 12 snippets. You must use at least 8.

Cheers and good luck!

~Cleo  :pharoah:

a botanical drawing
Riding the rip tide
your nakedness shadows our safety
The light burns
Under the eyes of the stars
Flowers and bluebirds
a glitter of seas
Contemplating a world
a wave of flickering grass
in a dawn of cornflowers
frail as the halo
Each wedge wears

Whimsical Warriors

Under the eyes of the stars,
whimsical warriors wield
reflected tidings of twilight.

The light burns brilliantly.
Lustful lips inhibit lingering
oceans of obscure optimism.

Respite comes riding the rip tide
on a glitter of seas amassing
laurels of luminosity.

Flowers and bluebirds feast on fare
savored by gatherings of gregarious
lovers as frail as the halo itself.

In a dawn of cornflowers, we
gaze at a botanical drawing
of divine devotion, unbound by
banquets of bondage.

In a wave of flickering grass,
we play a part, contemplating
a world
full of whimsical warriors.

Each wedge wears ecstasy
without limitation. In this
empire, your nakedness
shadows our safety
.

Anew

Riding the riptide,
our thoughts askew,
dreams not fulfilled
Each wedge wears anew.

The light burns, no longer bright,
our love, less each day,
frail as the halo's plight,
Contemplating a world of dismay.

In its own infinite way, as now,
your nakedness shadows our love.
I don't ask, why, or how
it's just you.. that I think of.

Under the eyes of the stars
can’t we see this through,
be left without any scars?
Only one, I want to pursue.

A glitter of seas, our only hope,
like a wave of flickering grass,
lives, not a slippery slope,
in a dawn of cornflowers, love shall pass.

Like a botanical drawing, in its glory
lives together once more,
flowers and bluebirds, our love story,
to the clouds of heaven, it will soar.

UNIVERSE-SHATTERING PLATHITUDES
(Satire)

Contemplating a world unknown to me,
say a botanical drawing,
or those of flowers and bluebirds,
I'm riding the rip tide of my dullish ignorance.

The light burns feebly through a glitter of seas;
a wave of flickering grass
on the mist-tossed shore
resolving in a dawn of cornflowers
under the eyes of the stars
fast fading now.

The partial moon indeed seems made of cheese
as each wedge wears a wrapper waxed not "Eden",
but "Edam", frail as the halo of a waning sun,
while your nakedness shadows our safety

to my bitter end .....

Dear All,

Lori's recent post has Unspired me (spelling deliberate) to write my version of Plath :

A LAST BOUQUET OF DRIED-UP FLOWERS
(Sylvia Plath phrases used : contemplating a world; your nakedness shadows our safety; the light burns; under the eyes of the stars; flowers and bluebirds; a glitter of seas; riding the rip  tide; a botanical drawing; a wave of flickering grass; frail as the halo; in a dawn of cornflowers)

Contemplating a world
without your nakedness,
shadows, our safety goggles,
the light burns under the eyes
of the stars, all flowers and bluebirds,
within a glitter of seas
riding the rip tide.

A botanical drawing of a mandarin,
faced in orange,
hued not dissimilar
to a baboon’s butt,
where each wedge wears
a wave of flickering grass
within my meandering,
frail as the halo
on a Botticelli postcard mind,
I come,
prepared to end it all,
serenely, in a dawn
of cornflowers blue ....

Alan McAlpine Douglas

PS I bet I make as much sense as the originals. I hope I am not treading on the toes of any Plath-lovers (Ted Hughes excepted), but if I am, I wish I could genuinely say I'm sorry ! )

Hi Alan

I'm not going to attempt to crit this.  I  love the baboon butt line - very amusing.

Sylvia Plath Snippets

Monterey Memories

A glitter of seashells once lined the beach
like swimmers, who were riding the rip tide
onto the sand. The waters could not reach
a wave of flick’ring grass that grew beside

the fragile dunes of sand; for each wedge wears
a crown, frail as the halo ‘round the moon.
Like a botanical drawing that shares
an artist’s mind. The light burns like it’s noon

while I was contemplating a world view
of flowers and bluebirds. Still, ocean’s laid
their tongues upon the coast; an endless queue.
Yet, in a dawn of cornflowers I stayed.

Your nakedness shadows our safety’s shore
under the eyes of stars we can’t ignore.

Snippets used in order of appearance: a glitter of seas, riding the rip-tide, a wave of flickering grass, each wedge wears, frail as a halo, a botanical drawing, the light burns, contemplating a world, flowers and bluebirds, a dawn of cornflowers, your nakedness shadows our safety, under the eye of the stars

When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the areas of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of his existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy
