Ashes to Ashes

Hot flames of gold will burn the skin and bone
while darkening a death’s unholy glow
with cleansing fire. Educe “Oh how they shone!”
Faint smile adorns the fairest face we know

but it too fades along with that sweet dream.
We leave with downcast eyes which will forget
all memory of tears but they still team
on faces like the snow-flakes, cold and wet.

Entombed this beauteous summer night, we place
the urn on laden twigs where flowers bloomed;
felt sorrow and such sadness but His grace
has promised us that whom the fires consumed

now lives with Him. We’ll hear the melodies
that angels sing to her when on our knees.

12 snippets used in the order given: flames of gold, death's unholy glow, Oh how they shone, adorns the fairest face,
that sweet dream, with downcast eyes, all memory of, like the snow-flakes, this beauteous summer night, On laden twigs,
sorrow and sadness, hear the melodies

I'm here, Larry, but summer weather sees me outside more than in. I'll keep checking.

Well done Larry!!! claps.gif

I love this - the only sports where it bumps is in the use of the snippets in this stanza:
Entombed this beauteous summer night, we place
the urn on laden twigs where flowers bloomed.
We feel sorrow and sadness but His grace
has promised us that whom the fires consumed

You could maybe 'nearly use' L3 there and just say:
We feel *such* sorrow; sadness, but His grace or something like that?

I will read this again and take it in further. Read.gif

Enjoyed the read!

Hi Lori,

Thanks for the visit and the suggestion. I used it but in a different way and hope it meets with your approval.

Larry

I did come back.

Not having done snippets, there's little I can add. Back when, I did a similar thing while visiting Poem Train, JD's one-time haunt. A number of phrases or snippets were given to be used, and results were interesting. I'm currently doing more reading than writing, including a book the came my way recently - Goethe. It's a break from Becquer at least.

The subject is one that is likely close to all, at least many. I'm unsure of "laden twigs" meaning, however. Since "flowers bloomed" (past tense), I see them more as barren. Baron Twigs?

Hello again Lori,

Glad you liked the change. Like you said, the bump came from the snippets and I had forgotten that when
posting over here, you don't have to use them verbatim.

Merlin,

Baron Twigs was laden with the urn!

Larry
