In the bleak (globally warmed) midwinter

with apologies to C. Rossetti

In the bleak midwinter, question blowing in the wind:
if the climate’s changing is it cos we have sinned?
Global warming’s melted snow, permafrost as well;
in the bleak midwinter: floods from hell.

Can our greed continue? Will the earth sustain
our fossil fuel dependency, CO2 and acid rain?
Once the bleak midwinter used to come each year
but now we’ve f----- the biosphere we have really no idea.

What can I give my children, weak as I am?
A world where all can live in peace or one vast traffic jam?
Will we heed our wise men, if they show us the way?
or carry on as normal and bid farewell to Santa’s sleigh?

Hi Fran !!  :snowflake:

Sylvia, I'm glad you can see the uplifting side to this, my friend. yes, there is always hope that we will learn and change, isn't there?

Why, of course it's uplifting, Fran !! I think Jesus would be campaigning for exactly these issues that you mention in your poem, if he were to walk the earth again today. He would especially try to do something about the extreme poverty on our planet, and he'd definitely not be stuffing himself with rich foods on his Birthday, when there are children starving, and ill people all over the place.

Unfortunately, people who point out the dark side of things and try to do something positive about them, even if it's a few lines of protest poetry, are exactly the ones called "doomsday prophets" and all the rest... and they get crucified, too, in many ways.  :(  :upside:

Not to worry, everything is as it should be, Fran,
hugs,
Sylvia  :dove:

Fran,
Christmas is an excellent time to reflect on what God would like to see changed in our attitudes and behaviors. From awareness comes change. Loved this ! I've been without a computer, so am just having the opportunity to read and respond to the newer holiday entries. Forgive the delay in commenting.

"...We are born into the world like a blank canvas
and every person that crosses our path takes up the brush and makes their mark upon our surface.
So it is that we develop.
