Hi y'all
It's the glorious fourth today (nope, not the start of the grouse season you Brits - no wonder the Aussies whinge about us whinging - but the USA celebration of *wanders off, muttering*)
Anyways ... there will be lots of fireworks and parties ... so I thought I'd suggest a prize for the "best" firework-themed poem posted here in the next few weeks.
Just add to this thread, as many poems as you can think up.
And, Brits, they'll come in handy for Nov 5th ... (yes, the heat has got to me).
Fran

Hmmmm - I'll bite Fran! This is a quickie though!
Fireworks are.....
Furiously fantastic, Independently incredible, Receptively righteous, Energetically expressive, Widely wanderlust, Ornametally ornate, Rambunctiously radical, Knowingly kaleidoscopic, Scenically savory
And Romantically remarkable... Elaborately expressive.

Nice one Lori
Fran - you know I can't resist a challenge. Here's something I scribbled down on the way to work this morning.
Fireworks
Bonfire crackles; orange flames devour Guy Fawkes effigy; smell of hot chestnuts wafts on chill Autumn breeze.
Catherine wheel whirls spraying shower of rainbow sparks. Rockets explode: luminous lights fountain across night sky.
Children watch mesmerised; eyes wide with delight; tiny mittened hands clutching effervescent sparklers.

Celebration's Glow
The night has dimmed to twilight as I take position in my front yard. The lawn chair in place, sweater nearby. a soft drink in one hand, a cigarette in the other
The lights in the valley below are twinkling as they do every night but now the dance of celebration begins above this blanket of winking homes. The muffled sounds of pops and whistles float up to me in a welcoming song.
Bursts of color shoot into the sky flashing their brilliance like a proud peacock, tentacles of light spreading in all directions. As they fade into the night like fairy dust I am filled with memories from long ago when other such dances played out before me.
The joyous times when my children were young. Oh how the sparkle in their eyes made me smile. One would prance up and down with glee, pointing to the sky with each new burst of color. Another would cuddle in my lap, covering his ears yet giggling when each boom tickled his tummy.
I remember too, the days of my own youth when we would sit across the lake watching the light show reflected in the water. And I would sing with all the others gathered, the oohs and aahs that passed our lips. And the glow of the fireworks on our faces Would make my heart gleam in equal proportion.

A good one Jackie, it's lovely watching the reaction of children. Wonderful image of your little boy cuddled on your lap covering his ears.

Aw, Jackie, those are beautiful memories. Super images and I particularly like the lad curled on your lap giggling when the booms tickle his tummy We live high on a hill now, so around Nov 5th we can see all the fireworks in the valley below. Fran

Nina Thanks Nina - Now that my grandson's are getting to that age of wonderment, I find those of my sons reactions more precious than before.

Fran Hi Fran and thank you. That's pretty much how my Fourth of July went here. The older I get the less I can get with others and the more I delve into memories.
