A Day in Camelot (nonsense exercise, no strict pattern observed)
(Merlin’s Tale)

It was a day in the month of May
But not yet time for making hay.

Once more the world was gay and bright
For every courtly lady and her gallant knight

In Camelot, King Arthur married his young queen
And then they picnicked on the castle green,

Munching chicken legs and mutton—
Wow! she proved to be a real glutton;

But in those days of old—(I should say “yore”)
Ladies ate, and ate, and ate some more,

‘coze ‘fitness’ had not yet come into style…
For that--she would have had to wait a while,

Like fifteen-hundred years and even more,
Meantime, she wouldn’t fit through a barn door.

The knights quaff ale and brag of battle,
Dragons they had killed and such prattle

While the queen and her handmaidens sing
Songs of love--and long to try a risky thing . . . .

&*^$%!
(Oops! I spilled my coffee, ruined the pages,
Right up to the gloomy Middle Ages . . . .)

But that’s not the tale I had meant to tell;
Mine is the one that doesn’t end too well.

Want to hear another stor-y
Exactly like the one befor-y? Nooo!

Hilarious!

Impromptu and off the cuff humour. I like that!

Cheers,

Thanks, Wal;
this one I wrote without much forethought; just having fun. I want to thank you for liking this little romp through the Arthurian legend. magicwink1.png

Wow, Jerry, I wish I could write such amusing verses in an impromtu fashion.
You've made me laugh a lot, tx for that! How wonderful to be able to eat and eat, as the ladies of the Middle Ages. Just a few centuries later, they began corsetting themselves up and it hasn't stopped yet. unsure.gif

Anytime you think the forums are slow, which they often are, keep throwing in stuff like this. I, for one, will be highly grateful. And it's far worse to spill coffee on the keyboard...gotta rush out and get a new one!

Cheers,

The Lord replied, my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.

"There is no life higher than the grasstops
Or the hearts of sheep, and the wind
Pours by like destiny, bending
Everything in one direction."

Sylvia Plath, Crossing the Water, Wuthering Heights.

Ah, Sylvia,
you do me too much honor, lol. I'm just a dabbler--for the most part, but thank you. I believe you are right about that corseting thing; a slender waist can be deceiving. I say, let it all hang out. laugh.gif I don't mind posting silliness as long as things are quiet of this forum. Thanks Syl, and don't you go around spilling coffee on your keyboard. charliebrown.gif

I've read some great poetry and once or twice been moved thereby. This though, is my cup of tea. I do enjoy reading nonsense and wish I was better at writing the same.

Keith,
the happy chappy

Hi, happy chappy Keith,
what a nice thing to say, lol. ( just used a cliche, didn't I?). Still, it's good to know that you enjoy written humor as well. Thank you for your kind words, charliebrown.gif
