I have a Christmas memory from childhood long ago; a lesson from my father that he wanted to bestow.
No traditional holiday tree will grace our home this year. We'll have nothing artificial, either, but it will be o.k., you hear?
I can see you're disappointed not to have a spruce, fir, or pine; they are only expensive trappings - a Texas tree will do just fine.
We'll get a Texas tumbleweed, put it on display; small decorations will adorn it with a twinkle light array.
Spread our simple gifts around it. Jesus won't mind it's not tall. Remember when He was manger born He had no tree at all.
God doesn't care about the tree or the ornaments, the lights. He doesn't value store-bought gifts. It's in people He delights.
What matters most is kindness. A loving spirit, too. Show charity to others... God will bless all you do.
Go to church on Christmas morn- Thank Him for His blessed Son. Try to live the entire year long as you have lived this one.
Merry Christmas !
2005 Marcia.....thank-you, daddy, for the lesson.....

Hi Marcia,
This reminds me of Charlie Brown's Christmas and that tiny tree he brought home. Once decorated it was beautiful! *smiles*
Good luck with the competition!

Very lovely Marcia! My mom moved to Texas a few years ago but somehow, I seriously doubt I could convince her to decorate a tumbleweed! Wonderful sentiment and a shining example of the true meaning of this celebration!
Hugs, B.

Cathy, This happened before the Charlie Brown Christmas was written, but whenever that animated special comes on it brings this to mind. There was another year that we decorated a holly bush. It is funny now, but out of all the Christmases as a child when we had traditional trees and such, these 2 Christmases are the most easy to recall..... Thanks for the positive response ! Marcia

Yep, Ron.....I'm sure that's true.....even our friends and neighbors at the time thought it unusual and talked about it for years thereafter with fondness. Marcia

Thanks, Lindi, Thank you for reading and for your kind comments. Am really glad you enjoyed it, as it was inspired by my late father and is a sort of tribute to his character. Marcia
