You've confused me, Ron.
Is it Higgledy or Johannes that was supreme?

Dear Merlin,
Higgledy couldn't invent the printing press.
(I think Higgledy was a pig.)

Hi Ron,

I liked the feel of this poem, and the sonics made up for the lack of my understanding. I am going to assume this is a real person and I've never heard of this person- (a good reading subject to follow for me) ...

But what importance does "Higgledy piggledy" (I notice piggledy is not capped, so I am going to believe that isn't a last night, but a nick name of some sorts) ...

Would like to learn more about the subject!

Best to you, as always ...

Liz

Hi Ron,

Ok... I discovered (through Rhyme Zone definitions) that Johannes Gutenberg was a German printer who was the first in Europe to print using movable type and the first to use a press... but what does 'higgledy piggledy' have to do with that? LOL I don't get the connection.

Higgledy piggledy
Johannes Gutenberg Should there be some sort of punctuation here and a lower case 'p' on 'Printer'?
Printer of pamphlets and
biblical theme.

Formerly handwritten,
untypographical
Road to the renaissance,
He was supreme. Since lines 3 & 4 are all one sentence should 'He' be capitalized? And what about the 'r' on 'Road'? Is this verse all one sentence?

Even though I didn't understand the whole thing I did enjoy the rhythm and the single rhyme. It worked out well!

Cathy

Dear All,
The double dactyl is a form of light verse sometimes called higgledy piggledy.
Google either and you'll learn all there is to know (or worthwhile knowing).
I find them difficult as their author better have a dictionary handy and be willing to use rhymezone
and of course write with no regard for beauty of form.
To have a working handle for the higgledy piggledy, you need subjects, always a person's name that consists of a double dactyl, /--/--, like MON i ca LEW in sky or ED ward moore KEN ne dy.
Finding such names is a daunting task. I guess about 2% meet specs.
Try one!
Cheers, Ron jgd

Ron,
You gave is just a slice of a history lesson / reminder in a very whimiscal form. Your analysis of this form was very helpful and has spiked my curiosity...I will be sitting at my desk today trying to come up with names that fit the requirement.

Thanks for the merry diversion.
