IMPRISONED BY BEANS

Commit not the mistake of many a man :
do not send to prison, also known as the can,
til you challenge the “proofs”,
are intolerant of goofs,
and parry the errors which others began.

Those who’re judgmental differ from us
people on top of the Clapham omnibus;
they are quick off the mark,
condemnation they bark,
when finally challenged “Please don’t make a fuss.”

Tenderness in them lacking , or could it be guilt,
the reason those castle walls they have built ?
’fraid of being found out,
of that there’s no doubt,
they’d feel so much better if their beans they had spilt !

Alan McAlpine Douglas

Challenge words : commit challenge proof intolerant
parry judgmental differ condemnation finally tenderness

Alan,
The message is very strong; whether it be a legal issue or not, society is often to quick to pass judgment.

Is Clapham a local site in your homeland? I like your reference to castle walls, I think they were built more to keep "things in" instead of keeping others out.

Dear Alan,
Read with inflections your challenge poem has for me a marvelous lilt.
Word usage challenges also have a way of liberating the poet so as to let
his imagination run full tilt.
As a light verser, I enjoy especially the PL enabled which allows the reader to get to know the personality of the writer. Even the selection of the title lets the reader speculate as to the mental state of the poet!
Last line has a typo...
My first smile of the day!!!
Cheers, ron jg
ps- I'd surely enjoy riding one of your double decker busses!

Dear John,

Thank you for your comments.

Clapham omnibus : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_man_on_the_Clapham_omnibus

I reckon castle walls can work both ways, no ?

Love
Alan

Dear Ron,

Lovely answer, thank you. I'm not sure you'd go for one of my "busses" - tho you would enjoy the ride on one of our buses ! (Look it up ! )

I wrote this as a set of limericks to disguise the serios intent - hence the lilt. The title is one of my special mis-leaders !

Love
Alan
