Colors, Begin the new year, with a coloring book Options

And so the new year arrives, and we face the unknown.  Each of us approaches in a slightly different manner, some with apprehension, some with promise, some with despair and some with hope.  But have you ever thought of the new year as a coloring book?  Three hundred and sixty five blank pages waiting for someone to apply colors to bring them alive.  You could use colors of all hues, some as simple as the crayons of our youth, albeit the eight colors or package of 128.  

To help you along we furnish this guide, so pick up your eight crayons (cause we are keeping it simple) color along and above all remember to stay in the lines.

Black

Black is for birds that fly in the sky,
black is for the pupil in the center of your eye,
black is for the ink so you can write,
black is for the dark so you can sleep in the night.

Blue

Blue is for the sky, no limit to be seen,
blue is for a child, a boy who is so keen,
blue is the dress for the first prom of the year,
blue is for the car that will carry her there.

Brown

Brown is the earth, strong beneath our feet,
brown is dirt that gets in our teeth,
brown is tree’s strong sturdy bark,
brown is the puppy who plays like a lark.

Green

Green is the spring we want to last,
green is the envy of the car in our past,
green is the light so won’t have to stop,
green is grass where the bunnies like to hop.

Orange

Orange is a word that has no rhyme,
orange has a shell which is bitter as lime,
orange is a tulip which bursts with such life,
orange are carrots we cut with a knife.  

Red

Red is the heart we open to bare,
red is the sunset we hope to share,
red is the shade of an colleen’s hair,
red is the anger when life is not fair.

Violet

Violet was her name when we were small,
violet is the flowers that hang in the mall,
violet is the rainbow’s last fading shade,
violet is the dress now starting to fade.

Yellow

Yellow are daisies early in the spring,
yellow are bananas and the joy they bring,
yellow are lemons mixed with rum and rye,
yellow was the sun when she first caught my eye.

I LOVE this idea!  I LOVE what you've done with it!  What creative thinking that spawned this one! What a thought ... if only we could color our days so simply as picking up a crayon and applying it.    

(You know, with a tiny tweak in timing), I'd recommend this poem for a winning award of some kind, I like it so much!  (The above is in parenthesis because I recognize this is a non-crit forum.  This is in parenthesis because the above is. ) LOL
