The baby In the Manger
The Baby Jesus stirs, his pretty eyes upon his mother gaze. The smiles and shines ensnare the silent night of Jerusalem. Beneath the stars, within a manger lays the Lord of all, so helpless and plain. Around him stand the beasts, repose at peace; they let him sleep on, quiet on his crib while Mary and Joseph look on with love. The shepherds come in twos and threes, from fields afar where they keep watch over their sheep, to adore baby Jesus, their intent. They bring him no present , save a fond wish and Mary serves them no drink, but the host of angels sing the most glorious refrains.
