I rattle my bones
and scourge my soul
like an old testament prophet,
contemplating the virtue of charity.
I check into the hotel of life,
allowng others to roll down my bed;
that way its the first thing
I remember before my night's sleep.
I have no need of enemies
just the balm of eventual tranquillity,
a kind word to all.

Hi Antony,

Hey, I think this is one of your best ever! No need for explanations, despite your use of metaphorical words.
I especially enjoy your first three lines... Your take on the O.T. prophets. Good!

As I can't crit anything at all, I'll just make the trivial suggestion that you put a full-stop at the end of your poem.

Thanks for sharing,

The Lord replied, my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.

"There is no life higher than the grasstops
Or the hearts of sheep, and the wind
Pours by like destiny, bending
Everything in one direction."

Sylvia Plath, Crossing the Water, Wuthering Heights.

Syl Thank you very much. I intended this poem ro be humorous as the narrator is benefitting from charity. I wanted to imply religion can be used to benefit the believer who uses all the right words.
I wrote this in a pub, but realise it's deeper covering, personal issues I am dealing with at present.
