UNICORN_AND_MOON.jpg ( 322.7K )
Number of downloads: 0Request With great respect he asked once more, How long must we remain within this realm? A tear now etched its lonely path; he felt it wrong to dwell where everything which once was dear to creatures such as he. The elf and gnome stayed hidden in dense forest or dark cave while dragons and fierce griffons made their home in lofty mountain holds. None dared to brave the eyes of man. Not so in ancient days when innocence had reigned; all lived in peace and harmony. Mankind had changed their ways and so the Unicorn pled for release. His answer came; Stay for a little while! said Luna with her bright familiar smile.

Oh my, Larry! What a beautiful response to the challenge.
I like the way you've expressed, sadly, humanity's "evolution" to rationality concerning these amazing creatures. I've always loved unicorns. As a child, they were my favorite animal, I honestly think I believed in their existence... but school education trashed all myths and legends for what they were: a useful metaphorical tool for writing compositions or poetry or whatever.
I also loved reading The Bluebird, about a zillion times! Well, I have to thank my dear Mother for reading tales and poetry to me when I was a toddler. She never knew, and neither did I, when I began to read on my own, it just happened. Loads of second hand children's books arrived from aunts living in Buenos Aires, it was so exciting when my Dad returned from the village with a large box of books in his arms...
The lines below are plaintive. The unicorn pleads for release... Sad.
Not so in ancient days when innocence had reigned; all lived in peace and harmony. Mankind had changed their ways and so the Unicorn pled for release.
And then the hopeful couplet: makes me want to sob!
His answer came; Stay for a little while! said Luna with her bright familiar smile.
Thank you for always answering the challenges with your wonderful insight into all sorts of themes. Would you consider moving this sonnet to Plato's or Herme's? Not many poets over there, but I see that Eira popped in to explain her absence. I miss her!

Hi Syl,
It's only lonely here when everyone thinks they are the only one around. A lot of my time is spent off-line writing but I do pop in quite often to see who is around.
Glad you liked "Request". I almost didn't see the tear on the Unicorn's face. That is what gave me the inspiration.
I shall post this in both suggested forums and will await your graphics skills to give the poem subject matter.
Larry

All done, Larry! The tear is included... LOL.
Hope to post another challenge in a while.
I know that you spend a lot of time off-line composing, reading, scanning, etc. You also must have plenty of other activities.
Nonetheless, in MM's golden days, one came here and saw several members online simultaneously. Plus some who used the invisible mode. As a moderator, I can also see the invisible ones, but they appear as "guests".
I'm not going to abandon ship yet, Larry. I'll just come over when I'm certain the "silence" will not depress me.
And hope to have time to get inspired myself. I'm the only moderator around, so it's not easy to get inspired when one's dealing with administrative stuff. Nobody asked me to post the challenges, no, but it seemed a good move to help keep MM on her feet.
It really gladdens me to see that you answer them, Larry. I know that Daniel will join in later on.
Best, Syl
