It with deep sadness that I announce the passing of our dear friend and Ohio Poet Laureate Don Holmes on March 22nd. Don was a wonderful friend and poet and he will be sorely missed. angel.gif I do not have any further news to share at this time, but trust he is at peace on the other side.

Lori, I was most upset to read the announcement about Don's passing. Nonetheless, I knew he'd been very ill, so I was as prepared as one can be on these occasions.

Don was a good friend of mine, we often exchanged mails on various topics. His dry sense of humor is sorely missed in the forums. His poetry was/is high quality and wonderfully concise.

Goodbye to a great friend and poet... May he rest in peace, and his family be reconciled to their sad loss.

I'll always remember you, Don.

Sylvia

The Lord replied, my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.

"There is no life higher than the grasstops
Or the hearts of sheep, and the wind
Pours by like destiny, bending
Everything in one direction."

I feel so very sad to hear this news, although not surprised and have felt worried about Don's health and recent abscence. I have missed him so much... he was always here, offering suggestions ... and yes Syl, with that dry sense of humour that made me smile.

God bless his family and help them through this sad time.

With fond memories

Oh no! I noticed his absence and missed him. I used to chat to him at length on email as he was interested in advertising etc. And a very clever man. I am very sad.

I will light a candle for him.

Blessings to his family. I am sure he is looking down at us chatting away about him on the net.

Hi all,

I am most terribly sad to hear about this.

Don remained of good cheer, despite his long illness and stressful treatments. He was always interesting both in critting and replies to crits. Frequently we did not understand what each other meant but that never seemed to matter, as it often fostered absorbing conversations. I have followed Don's postings here and elsewhere; he was always polite, helpful and offered wonderfully quirky - nonetheless serious - perspectives.

I wish his family and friends many condolences.

Don - "Yore" voice will be missed.

James.

Don was a bright light and a welcome fixture; he always took the high road in offering comments and his support of our work was always sincere and caring.

He was a gentleman much like our beloved Larry Carr.

This is quite upsetting news to read. I don't even know what to say. I know that Don had touched so many over these past 6 or 7 years, with his poetry and his friendship. He will be missed very much.

Sending my love and sympathies to Don's family, may God give them strength, as Don had strength through his illness - that they may over come his loss and breathe life into his memory so that it will continue to touch many.

PS - Good to see you Jox; although under a sad circumstance - hope all is well.

Best Regards, Liz

I'm so sorry to hear this sad news. Don fought for so long yet always remained cheerful. As JLY said, he was a gentleman in everyway, intelligent and charming. He will be greatly missed.

Hi All,

I am overwhelmingly sad over this grievous news... Don was a constant supporter of my work and my peace of mind, as he was of others. His loss will be sorely felt throughout the poetic homes...

His light will forever glow within me...

My deepest condolences to all who loved him... His is a great loss.

Love to him and his.

Daniah
