HI all.

Pandora's on the loose and while we're busy finding her 'hidden treasures', how about a more serious topic ~ being thankful?

In response to Aphrodite's new piece in Homer's Homilies, "Thanks, for giving" , I would like to offer this challenge.

What are you thankful for in life? There are no requirements for style.

There is no end-date for this one. PLease REPLY to this thread with your posts.

Good luck all!

Hello Lori

I give thanks for the following:

IN PRAISE OF

The voice of Domingo, the art of Van Gogh,
the rose pink flamingo, Shakespeare and Belloc.
circus performers from slim wires suspended
and birds flying freely as nature intended.

Love’s sweet enchantment. -  The first light of dawning.
the skylark exultant on a sweet summer morning.
first smile of an infant and -  Reggae – Jamaican!
and lemon scent, pungent -  and  sizzling bacon!

The web of a spider with sky shining through,
the down of the eider - and singing bamboo.
the plopping of raindrops through canopied trees
a gurgling stream or the sigh of a breeze.

a lop-sided scarecrow.  - The portent of swallows
a beauteous rainbow and the blue sky that follows.
the laughter of children enthralled by a clown.
the first star of evening and the sun going down.

The sails of a windmill, - Buonarotti’s ‘Pieta’
the singing of violins and musical theatre.
the feel of your hand on my brow when I’m fevered.
the embrace on my skin as the boat turns to windward.

A smile from stranger, pure creamy white doves.
the sensuous feeling of soft doeskin gloves.
A burgeoning Spring – Summer’s long carefree days
the abundance of Autumn – horse-drawn Winter sleighs.

The Lord’s gift of senses all leading me through
a world fill with beauty – sights much loved – and new.

Dear Grace

All the more admiration cuz I could never do this !

It is amazing how you make a virtue out of the totally disparate and disjointedness of your list.

Brilliant.

Love
Alan

I'm just going to pile some here for now. Then I'll ponder them. I could pile them elsewhere but that would be pointless. If the space is needed - just sweep them into oblivion. The formatting of this is tough - many things fit into more than one catagory. If I can think what to do with this pile I shall

Gerry, Hi.

You're right about Cybele (Grace) - she's one of our best poets on here.

Elgar! How could I have forgotten Elgar??? I shall add him as soon as I've written this.

Marriage - don't know, never been married per se.

Mendelssohn - Take him or leave him - eg Can't stand wedding piece but Fingle is brilliant.

Yorkshire. Indeed. I cannot add it alone because I love so many counties but it is truely wonderful. The Moors, The dales, The seaside and so on. A really wonderful county. Grace's relative lives there, too. He kindly sent me a picture of a pub we stayed in very man moons ago (The Old Silent Inn, Haworth). No addresses, obviously, but what part are you in?

Thanks for your comments, Gerry.

James.

James,
I live in Hambleton between Leeds, Selby and York.
Very rural farming village, good for dog walking, running
       and cycling.
My wife and I have a place at Pateley Bridge in Nidderdale
also, where we spend a lot of time in the warmer months.

I love all Felix's music particularly his symphonies, but then
I love another fifty composers nearly as much cheer.gif

Thanks for the E/M's Ain't life funny? dance.gif

       Gerry.

Gerry at al,

We, too, live in a rural area - we are in a mid-terrace and, altogether, there are sixteen cottages in this Hampshire hamlet. We look-over fields front and back. We, too, have excellent dog walking area - the New Forest is only about thirty miles away (via a motorway , so we can be there with 1/2 hour) and there are woodlands and fields all around. Our three dogs appreciate that; we don't appreciate their walks in this weather, though!

I'd loathe to live in a city (though we did live in Winchester - pop 30,000 for a year. It was too busy for us).

I'm not greatly into classical / romantic music but do like individual works. Elgar more than anyone - but Beethoven is excellent (6th and 9th wonderful and Masses in C and D are divine) etc.

See you later.

James.

I'm thankful for the air I breathe...
my heart and lungs agree
without it I'd be forced to leave
this life quite hurriedly.

My eyes are treasured by me too;
invaluable in worth...
there's beauty all around to view
upon this blessed green earth.

But then I realize there's more
that makes my life worth while,
and instantly can think of four
more senses and a smile.

I like to saturate myself
with all life offers me;
sight, hearing, smell, touch, speech...not wealth;
these precious things are free.

If I have these. I have it all,
for with them I can be
successful, failure, happy, sad;
it all depends on me.
****************
Armed with such gifts, how can I fail
to thank the one who gave
a place for me to tell my tale.
Hi Lori...here's a wave.

Thanks Lori, this challenge made me think, and I decided without these things I would not be able to fully enjoy all that has been placed here for us.
hugs and blessings
Bren

I'm thankful for every day I wake up alive, I'm thankful for the loves in my life, I'm thankful for the journey I call my life, I'm thankful for all the wonderful people I have met.
