eh? noise – me?
“I’m sorry that the sound’s so loud,” he shouts into the mike. “I hope you know that poetry is something that I like; that’s why I read that piece by Shelley— ‘cause I think it rocks. But now we’re gonna blast your ears.” I go outside to talk, but even there I have to raise my voice more than I want. I have a few more years to hear, so this can’t be my haunt. Folks younger than I am, I know aren’t bothered by the noise and even hoot and clap for them… but soft my ear enjoys. I wish it could occur to them that less-loud is okay. I really thought I’d hear his words, “Tonight we’ll softer play.” © MLee Dickens'son 06 Jan 2007 ·······  ·······Slow down; things will go faster!

I did, actually... and rather successfully. My kids do like some music that I don't particularly care about, but they don't do the loud, shoutin', poundin', ear-piercing stuff either. Still do with my grandchildren... always will. No sense yellin'. Hey Daniel,
This is great! I love how you infuse humor, metaphor and generation gap into your delightful poem. Both my kids are musically inclined, and between my son playing the drums with band, and my daughter singing, soft noise is rarely an option! There are times I want to "crank it up", but other times the sweet sound of gently rain RULES, so I hear you! Thanks for sharing!
