I am way, way out of my league here. Just the few samples of poetry I've viewed are vastly better than my own simple offerings. I am untrained and unskilled and constant rigid structure while I love to read it, consticts me. I only have a very few poems that would be viewed as worthy to be on this site I'm afraid. I'm not giving up quite yet, but I also may not be the poet I've been told I was either. ~Blessings, Pami

Hello Pamela and WELCOME TO MM! Newbie.gif PartyFavor.gif Balloons.gif

We offer honest, yet friendly feedback in our workshopping forums so I do hope you'll find yourself at home here, once you settle into your own groove-thing and start interacting ( we don't bite). odie.gif There are many members here with different skill levels and technique, which makes MM more comfortable, diverse and challenging if you become so inclined in your poetic journey. sings.gif cheer.gif

There's plenty to delve into, so please, wander our halls, take in our colorful 'tiles' and join in the fun (officially now that you're a member). hsdance.gif Idea.gif If you would be so kind, one of the first things we ask is to share a bit of your goals with us. What type of poetry/prose do you enjoy writing most and are there certain forms you often write in? Shall I assume the level of critique you would like to receive on your topics is 'light' to start?

Each forum has its own 'forum participation rules' posted in a link at the top of the forums, so please have a read of them: http://forums.mosaicmusings.net/index.php?showtopic=8574 .

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me or any of our staff (AMETHYST, Cathy, Eisa, JLY, Arnfinn and Imhotep). rose.gif margarita.gif mm.gif mm.gif

Hells Bells, Lady Poet.... I don't have ANY poems that compare with most of the offerings here... but I will say this... I've never been to a workshopping board that was half as genuinely sincere about helping. Take you time... poke around... I'd bet you'll find a niche. In the meantime, share some of your poems in the Exhibition thread. "Plato's Pearls of Wisdom". I think you might be pleased and encouraged by some of the comments you recieve.

Have a happy
sam

Hello Lady Poet,

I reply to you with a hugh grin from ear to ear, knowing that myself as well as many, many other members here and starting out feeling just as you are right now. It was a forum, much like Mosaic Musings that led me to learn and grow in my own poetry and in the knowledge of poetry over all - and Mosaic Musings has been the place to continue to offer that same gift to many.

I started out with poetry that had feeling, had a good rhthym, but fumbled in many aspects of what magazines, literary folks and publsihers would ever consider worth a full read. And not that my poetry is up their expectations today, it has made great improvements and I proud of the continuing progress in my knowledge - so if you are here to read, learn, grow and improve your own poetry - You will find Mosaic Musings the 'Home' for you.

Don't worry about posting something you don't think worthy, together you will receive idea's and points of reference to make choices for yourself and the reasons why these changes and suggestions might benefit your poetry. In time, that feeling will fade away and will be replaced with a confidence in your skills, talents and knowledge...

Welcome to a place to grow on...

To help you get easily acclimated, Lori (Cleo_Serapis) posting is most helpful to learn the rules and to get settled in your own little nitches that feel like home to you!

Welcome to the Mosaic of many different styles, talents and poets... together we become a family!

Best Regards, Liz

Hi Pami,

Welcome aboard....and don't fear, I still feel the way you do, having little knowledge myself and having only written poetry for around 2 years. Don't worry, though, these are wonderful people and offer fantastic advise that will soon find you lapping up the pointers and suggestions they offer. So splash yourself across these screens and have fun!

Hugs,
M

Dear Cleo and Amythest (Love that name, I had a character in a role playing game name of Lady Amythest!)

Thank you so much for your response! I'm afraid I got very ill after I joined and then,
lol, I forgot my password and couldn't sign back in.

First in response to you Cleo, no, I don't require "light reviewing" I already know that I have trouble with some area's of expertise such as meter and technical terms my brain refuses to comprehend such as the length and flow of pentameter's and other diverse poetic formula. I am most a rhymining poet, but standard quatrains, some limericks, I love the Japanese arts and dabble in them consistantly and I struggle with free verse and have a few that I think I did well, including some that have rhyme.

In response to Amythest, I would like to submit a couple of poems but where is a good place to start for someone like me? I will be back Monday and anticipate your replies.

Blessings, Pami

cheer.gif Good Afternoon Lori!

My goals? Do I still have any? Hmmm....

I've been published and am working now on both a book of poetry and thinking of turning my story into a novel....

I suppose my goals are still the same. To learn as much as I can about poetry. Stretching my talents out of my comfort zones and challenge my skill...of late I've begun to feel empty...as if I've written all that was given me to write....I know that can't be true, my muse is just on vacation!

I am not afraid of any level of crit. We need it in order to be able to percieve our own work through other's eyes and to determine through their observations if any changes are merited. I know for a fact I won't have problems finding people better, or more experienced here that will be willing to help. Having had only experience with sites that want flattery and accolades that will be refreshing and I won't have guilt feelings when I naturally try to give some pointers from my own point of view.

I hope I answered this better than the last? I'm a very eclectic and diversified writer and I love words! I've had a lifelong love affair with them and it's amazing to me how many words I come across in higher levels of poetry that still propells me to the dictionary! Read.gif

I have a definate problem with comprehension in all the metered styles, though I can understand syllable count and can sometimes bluff through...hehehe blush21.gif

Hugs and smiles, Pami

Greetings, Pami,

Welcome to MM. I'm sure you will find this a second home in no time. I tend to get pulled away for long periods of time yet still feel more comfortable here than anywhere else. Forgive my late welcome for that very reason. In fact, this time I've been gone so long I may have to reintroduce myself. **S**

This is a great place to get started. I look forward to reading some of your work.

~~ Jackie
