Mosaic Musings, LLC celebrated it's second anniversary on August 1st, 2005.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY MM! :block:
I'd like to personally thank all our members and guests for making this possible. Without you, we would be nothing to speak of.
Lots of changes have taken place in our second year. One thing remains unchanged: Simply put, our mission. At Mosaic Musings, we strive to bring out the best in our writers, to streamline and strengthen their talents, which will result in a refined masterpiece ready for publishing (if so sought). By offering friendly, yet thorough critiques, we will support those members wishing to enhance their works in a setting that is relaxed, fun and challenging.
Some new goodies this year: the incorporation of weekly Times Ten challenges, bi-weekly FLASH Jam sessions and a re-vamped monthly Pandora's Chaos (minus the voting). We also implemented mini-plaques to showcase the awards given to those members who participate in or are nominated for any of our 13 awards. A multitude of hacks were added, more emoticons as well as new skin selections and a new Digital web book feature.
In October 2004, we started a new annual tradition for our members: The MMHC (Mosaic Musings Holiday Classic) sponsored by the Sollars family of Nebraska. In October and November, our members can post a holiday themed piece for consideration as a finalist. There is a cash prize of $50.00 for the winner and a chapbook compilation will be available for sale in our store including all entries submitted.
In November 2004, we opened our newest offering of Self Publishing here at the Mosaic. We've put together a pricing sheet that is very competitive with other sites that offer this service. We offer EIGHT packages with two tiers of pricing based upon a 16-28 page chapbook and a 32-44 page chapbook in grouping of 25, 50, 75 and 100 book commision pricing. With our service, you have a choice of color covers and one color image within this pricing structure free of charge. Each order comes with complimentary copies (based on order size), free shipping, optional ISBN and a 25% royalty for books sold on MM. Our pricing is based upon the number of content pages within, 28 or less and 32 or more (up to a maximum of 44 pages). Our fees vary from 25 book deals for $175 or $195 up to 100 book deals for $375 or $395.
In January 2005, we made a change to our poetry critique forums. Instead of offering mild and complex critique forums, we now offer a moderate critique forum (Herme's Homilies) for R & M and FIXED FORM Poetry and a moderate critique forum (Seren's Synapse) for FREE FORM Poetry.
In March 2005, we incorporated 'Mini' versions of our awards which now appear in our winning member's signatures.
In April 2005, we added FOUR LARGE PRINT skins for our members, which are copies of Aurora, Home Skin, Blue Vile and XBox. You must be a member of the forum to view these selections.
In May, 2005 we inititated bi-weekly 'Flash-Jam' sessions for our members. "Flash" writing is immediate, unplanned and from the heart. Given a stimulus - a title, picture, poem or description - our members are invited to write for a short time (twenty minutes to half an hour is ideal) on whatever comes to mind. The responses might be in prose or poetry or some combination of the two. It may not even "make sense" but it will spark ideas, help our members find their 'voice' and suggest (to them, at least) new approaches to their work.
In July, 2005 We designed and published our first digital web book, Syntax & Musings Summer 2005 (with a chapbook collection for sale as well).
To date, we have crowned 14 members the title of Laureate Legionnaire for gaining 5 awards. Six members have been crowned, "Critical Chieftain" for 10 awards and one member has been crowned "Ornate Oracle" for 20 awards.
We have 124 members representing 14 countries, and a total of 38077 posts (34449 replies to 3628 Topics).
I am working on a glossary of terms now and more seasonal chapbooks soon to be added to our list of newbies.
Thanks to all who have made this possible! We look forward to our third year with you all!
Cleo Imhotep and our entire MM staff.

Hi Lori, everyone,
Thanks to Fran for replying which bumped this, as I missed it first time around.
Congratulations to MM, especially to Lori and to everyone who has worked - and played - so hard to make MM what it is. Is it perfect? Of course not - but I haven't seen a better site anywhere. We're a tad small which can be a problem, thought look at the big sites out there - I have and they're not friendly and have no better help (usually much worse) than MM.
So, looking ahead, I'd like to see us grow but not too much. That way, we can ensure excellent critting continues - in the friendly, constructive manner that has been fostered in MM's first two years.
Happy Birthday!
J.

Happy birthday to us all. Like Jox/James, I've found MM to be friendly and helpful. For curiousity I looked up my anniversary date with MM, which is six days after MM got tangled in sticky web strands.
Residents of a large city cling to comfort of set streets and hangouts, like members are attracted to a small percentage of an unwieldy membership. I was uncomfortably roaming streets and hangouts at PK before jumping to village comfort of MM. I knew most of the names in this new village and didn't feel like accidently entering a dangerous neighborhood. Being a small town fritter, I prefer mutually good neighbors, like at MM, and have the advantage of seeing village grow, which is easier than growing into a vast population
Thanks in large part to Lori/Cleo_Serapis, MM is very successful.
Frankly, the proliferation of tiles and activities are beyond my time or interest. Therefore, I apologize for failing to be a fully supportive member. Dipping my toes into the pool occasionally has been very satisfactory. I thank our hostess, Lori, for her patience with a "sometime thing."
Biggest satisfaction comes from the open hearts of our active members. Their candid helpful intentions are superior to most places I've visited.
May MM, LLC have many more happy birthdays.
Don

Happy, Happy Birthday ... Mosaic Musings
I remember when the seedling began to bud in Lori's heart and mind and her vision for what the future for the members, as a family would be. The realization is that she has surpassed her visions and maintained a warm and family oriented site. Mosaic Musings has become much more than anyone could have ever of imagined.
That is because you've watered and nurtured the seedling with love, respect for others and kindness... and patience...and creative musings, but mostly because you have shared yourself 'with' others and that is what makes a site blossom... and having excellent members who work toward the same goal, because they feel and know that this is their home too.
All my love and respect, Liz ...
