SANTA'S SOLILOQUY

It's Christmas Eve
I'm running late,
oh my goodness...
I don't feel so great.

My mind is a blank,
snow looks a bit gray,
I don't remember if
I took my pills today?

Vitamins and Valium,
Zanax, Lipitor and more,
nasal strips to breathe...
helped diminish my snore.

Mrs. Claus is cranky,
her nerves are shot,
must be menopause
that's got her so hot.

Rudolph's hung over,
can't see worth a darn,
who will pull this sleigh
out of my big red barn?

Sugarplum Mary
makes candied sweets,
filling the core with
rum-tasting treats.

No more dolls or trains,
or models of pyramids,
only Elmo and Ipod pleases
these spoiled, snotty kids.

I’m tired and pissed
at our loss of innocence,
the magic is long gone,
along with the suspense.

It's now the millennium
is the Old Santa dead?
Is this just a dream
playing eerily in my head?

Oh my John,

This is a treasure. The delightful rhythm compliments the voice of the poem, accenting on the humor and ho hum tone. What a pleasure to read this. I will certainly be rereading this from time to time! :)

It seems that Santa can make Time slow to a whisper on Christmas Eve, but for poor St. Nick and Mrs Clause... just like us all ... time is flying by on double deer sleds! wink.gif

Hugs, Liz

Liz,
Believe it or not, the inspiration for this one came when I wrote response to one of Alan's poems this morning....I used the line.."did I take my pills today"? got me to thinking would Santa ever say this.....so quickly like an inspired songwriter who puts his ideas down on a paper napkin....I quickly penned it on a piece of paper while my PC was booting up this morning....15 minutes later I had it done and threw caution to the wind and posted it asap.

Most certainly everyday life can be challenging for all of us.....even , it appears, Mr. & Mrs. Claus ~laugh~ Santa really is having a "blue" Christmas with all the modern stresses. This is wonderful, John. Good luck with it in the competition.
