SABLE NIGHTS
Swaying ... back and forth, gently pushing the gazebo swing with one bare foot ... I am mesmerized by whispers of summer's eve.
The wrap of night is warm as sable, enfolding me in sensuous comfort. Its kiss of breath caresses my cheek with the sensitivity of a lover.
The sweet scent of clematis tickles my nose as its clinging vines entwine the gazebo posts, their lustre muted by dusk.
Hugging one knee to my breast and one toe pumping the swing, I recline my head, close my eyes ... and dream.
He comes to me, with all the beauty of Adonis, slowly wending his way through flower-fringed paths in the garden.
A shimmering mountain of taut muscle and firm flesh, stepping with assuredness, yet unaware of his raw masculinity.
My heart opens to him as rose petals to the warmth of sun and with the fluidity of unfurling silk I melt into his embrace.
He cups my face in his hands, his touch ... strong, yet gentle, moist lips touch the corner of mine; he owns finesse in his tenderness.
Without speaking, our eyes confess the secrets of our hearts and we are wrapped in a cocoon of intense devotion.
Hearts intertwine as arm in arm we drift into the mists, strengthened by love and promises, but only on sable nights ... when I dream.

ENCOUNTER
He’ll come tonight fiery with love and love’s intent flinging open his arms to fold me in them.
In from the cold night raining down his neck wet leather-jacket flung on a chair he’ll slide under my quilt hold me forever.
He's explored my body we've made love lips found lips our world seemed everlasting like artificial, ocre logs in the gaslit hearth.
Echo of his boots on the staircase. Revving-up, triumphant roar of motorbike.
Drawn curtains lamplight softens decaying walls a siren wails through distant city streets efficient voices knife the air far from my window.
Yesterday’s newspaper scattered over floorboards coffee cold in chipped cups wet cigarette-butts on saucers.
Perhaps my man will come again tonight.

The Apex
I can go no further; I have scaled my heights,
pangs of resentment awaken to frosty light; my last faint mutterings, incoherent whispers, an odyssey within my heaving breast,
bones solicited by glaring tongues,
ashes bequeathed to a place…
where existence…
floats.
Never again to be burdened: no love, no demons, a fragmented grey spectrum, cascading then vanishing into eternal…
o b s c u r i t y…
I have scaled my heights. Copyright 2005 John Macleod
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hearts homesick for the Emerald Isle
Hearts homesick for the Emerald Isle write sonnets to that land so green, weave Irish legends to beguile.
Leprechauns' gleeful evil guile saps love of life from those who've seen hearts homesick for the Emerald Isle.
Bards, too, who hope to make a pile - sage sagas on a silver screen - weave Irish legends to beguile.
Much distant scholarship worthwhile - yet more time studying will mean hearts homesick for the Emerald Isle.
Compelling tales I may compile with blessings from a faery queen; weave Irish legends to beguile.
So kiss the Blarney Stone with style: verbal virtuosity preen; hearts homesick for the Emerald Isle weave Irish legends to beguile.
Congrats!
