knight.gif  Squires and Pages knight.gif

When great tales are told
of knights brave and bold
who rescue fair maidens from spires.
Some herald loyal steeds,
but few praise the deeds
of their poor pages and squires.

When George slew the beast
the Lords gave a feast
to celebrate what he had done.
Though dragon's fierce fire
had singed his poor squire
of wine, meat or song he shared none.

Sir Lancelot bright
was a dashing young knight
whom all the young maids did adore.
Though his page penned those quotes
and potent love notes,
he slept all alone on the floor.

The Norman conquest
turned out for the best
when Harold caught one in the eye.
Knights, victor and foe,
that arras will show,
but not the poor serf who let fly.

Now old Willy Tell
he shot his bolt well
striking apple rather than son.
But the tales they omit
the pages he'd hit
whom he had first practiced upon.

All through the ages
for Squires and Pages
their lot was to bear with the pain.
When deeds were all done
and spoils were all won
they seldom did share in the gain.
