I think we have cross-purposes galore here.
I may be wrong but here's my interpretation...
Larry has just wished us all a Happy Christmas Month
Tom thought Larry meant Thanksgiving - which means nowt in the UK, hence his answer.
Lori told me that, in the US, "Tom" means a turkey. I asked because she used the same phrase as Larry. Here, to The Police at least, "A Tom" is a prostitute.
So, Oscar Wilde was right - two countries seperated by a common language.
