Your Songs
My memory lies neither in the stone etched for uncultured strangers, whose purview is limited to written words; nor on sad eulogy. Those never shall imbue
the soul with songs you've planted in my heart which stem the tide of grief. The angst pervades each moment of my life that we’re apart to spoil facades and bittersweet charades.
Yet, here you are, still fresh within my mind to thwart the black abyss that yawns beside eternal sleep. The hands of death may bind the shell in which, no longer, you reside
but there still floats within my dreams each night your visage, smiling, as your songs take flight.
Words used in order of appearance: memory, uncultured, stone, song, planted, tide, bittersweet, fresh, beside, floats

Another beauty, Larry. So wishful, poignant but at the same time comforting as regards the finale.
"The hands of death may bind the shell in which, no longer, you reside
but there still floats within my dreams each night your visage, smiling, as your songs take flight."
That is so true. My late husband wrote poetry, especially sonnets in Spanish, and dedicated several to me. (He also wrote excellent English poems, but not sonnets).
And I often remember them when I'm half-dreaming...that period before awakening that seems so very real.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful piece.
Syl

Hi Sylvia,
Again, thank you for the visit and the high praise. I hope you have kept those sonnets your late husband wrote. It would be a pity for them to be lost or misplaced.
A sonnet, written from the heart with love, is but a song that pleases God above.

Hi Larry, You always deserve high praise! Sometimes I'm at a loss for words. There's never anything to crit...
Yes, I've kept all of my husband's poetry. Both sonnets and other forms, in English and Spanish. They're printed out, in a folder. One never knows what might happen with the Internet! I also store stuff in a cloud called Dropbox. Plus a complete backup of my computer in an exterior hard disk. It's useful to carry around, because one can plug it in any computer whilst travelling. And right now, this week, I shall have to go shopping for a new computer. Mine just decided to retire...
A sonnet, written from the heart with love, is but a song that pleases God above.
Wow, I'll keep these lines, if you don't mind.
Syl

No, Sylvia,
I don't mind at all seeing as how I wrote them after another of your glowing bits of praise.
We have a new member from Kiev who joined but didn't post anything yet. I wished her a happy birthday because she just turned 19 a couple of day ago. Perhaps "youth" is becoming bored with the "Social Scene" and will come and add to our membership. One can only hope.

OK, it's best to have permission. Thank you!
A new member from Kiev? Here at MM?
Geez, I wish more staff would come out of the woodwork, even if a couple of times a week.
Thanks for letting me know.
Cheers, Syl
