Hi,
I'm not entirely sure I meet the requirements for this posting, since I have been an inactive member for some time.  If this is in contravention of the rules, pls feel free to remove it - no hard feelings.  I did a quick look over what I've got that's Xmasy, and this is about it.  M

Tis the Season

A red-dyed sky is left behind – the sun
has settled down behind a western ridge
to close another day.  Across the bridge
are signs that Christmas season has begun.
The evening sky is very soon outdone
by bright-lit garlands strung on trees and homes,
on shops and streetlamps, tall cathedral domes,
and in the streets – by people on the run.

The countryside lies silent under snow;
a sense of peace extends across the land
beyond the bustle of the city’s crowds.
When chores are done, a cowboy feels the glow
of burning logs, then warms his outstretched hand
as smoke curls slowly upwards to the clouds.

Good morning Eric, sun.gif

A lovely contrast between the mayhem of Christmas Shopping and the peace and quiet of the countryside (which far more conveys the spirit of Christmas IMHO)

I live in a tiny village surrounded by farms and fields. It would be lovely to see them nestled under blankets of snow. We have had hardly any in the last ten years. Snow makes everything feel quiet and peaceful doesn't it?

Thanks for the read and good luck.  :snowflake:

Hi Merlin

An interesting look at the contrast between the artificiality and bustle of the city and nature and peacefulness in the countryside.

Good luck in the competition.

Hello Eric,

This is quite vivid, as if a painting- the senses are drawn into active partiicpation and the mind is quickened by the motion and emotion of the poem. I surely enjoyed this. Best of luck in the contest. Liz

Hi Eric,

I love the juxtaposed images and I am left with a wonderful feeling of meditative calm from this. As usual, the form is effortlessly invisible.

Hi Merlin !  :sun:

Beautiful imagery in a deftly written Christmas poem. I love it !
I too admire the contrast between city and country, the idea of the cowboy warming his hands by the fire, after his chores are done, is wonderful.
Great rhyming form, too.

Great !
