Holy Holiday

When comes the time for us to hear
More of heart an' less with ear
Of Christmas joy and Christmas cheer

Then waken'd angels beckon blissful
Take them up tin pennyw'istle
To spread th' Sovereign's sweet epistle

And shun the one, refute the few
That deny this time is true
They would steal this day from you

Rejoice in freedom whilst ye can
Gather numbers, break the ban
From smallest child to eldest man

... it's Christmas

... it's Christmas

... it's Christmas

Thanks Don;

Yes it was kind of the impetus for the poem. A friend had a bad experience at Wal-Mart the other day. Not thinking he wished the greeter a Merry Christmas... it led to confrontation and screaming. My friend and wife left to NEVER shop ANY Wal-Mart or Sam's club agian. It's been on my mind since he posted the encounter at my site.

I'm pretty sure pennywhistle (the instrument) is one word. I build them and it's always appeared as one word in the the tuning instructions. I'll look it up. Thanks

Sam

Thank you Xanadu I sometimes try to emmulate the Celtic mannerisms in a line or two in some of my poems. It usually just comes off as really bad tv pirate prattle. Thanks again for the visit, the kind comment and .... Merry Christmas to you and yours !

Hi 4rum,

Shuda nowed I'd be wrong. Pennywhistle is a valid dictionary word. I usually look this stuff up before pounding keyboard, but. . .

I get a little ticked at the religious right being as intractable as those pushing to eliminate the Christian God. My academics killed conventional religious belief, but I firmly believe humans are infinitely distant from being godlike and our frail condition essentially requires that we do believe. Yes, intellectuals can point out all the damage and cause of violence; but we probably would have used another excuse if religion were not handy.

Here is my take in a short poem:
Killer Creations

Like Frankenstein and man,
colossal creations kill creators.

Howdy Sammy

Gorgamous work as usual and I loved the interactive reviews! I love your diversity
and ability to concisely convey your meaning in great (to my mind) poetry.

Evening Pami;

Thanks for dropping by on this one. Sort of wrote it in the heat of the moment. I was peed o'ed about Mutt's experience at Wal-Mart. But it's a sore spot anyway... dang it... it IS CHRISTmas! ! !
