INTERCHANGE

My past behavior was murky,
a once skewed view of life
had been a futile paradigm,
engaged only to evoke strife.

This heart had grown cold,
I soon embraced darkness
and it was a weighty anchor
mired with heavy bitterness.

A pawn to caustic devices,
I was amuck in hollow dreams
that offered glaring apparitions
to swift, harrowing extremes.

Immortality was not my desire,
I’d fallen, sedated by despair
and dwarfed by futility’s trash
while lying in a stupefied lair.

Introspection rallied my spirit,
finally I took a solemn pledge
to escape my decadent habits;
my principles I would not hedge.

Intervention enlightened a vista
once lost in an addictive state,
now framed by blessed beliefs,
a genesis I long to celebrate.

Gossamer chords of serenity
resonate melodically in my mind,
a peaceful haven inspires my soul
as hope and faith are entwined.
