By the time they're 50
we will have been long time buried,
though they still laugh
that some persisted with slide film,
not even garage sales will entertain such
chemical emulsions.
Future Eco warriors every one of them,
a preference for light sources beyond digital
which might as well be
their Espion accord,
all it would cost are their souls.
The subjects of their future laughter
can only guess what truly is in store.
Some terrible 1984 scenarios at a guess
no independence or ability to fore-think,
such will be the post industrial landscape
what use for interpretive photography ?

Hi Antony,

Good title!

By the time they're 50
we will have been long time buried,
though they still laugh
that some persisted with slide film,
not even garage sales will entertain such
chemical emulsions.
[f]Future Eco warriors every one of them, Capital for start of sentence
a preference for light sources beyond digital
which might as well be
their Espion accord, comma
all it would cost are their souls.
The subjects of their future laughter
can only guess what truly is in store.
[s] Some terrible 1984 scenarios at a guess Capital letter to start)
no independence or ability to fore-think,
such will be the post industrial landscape
what use for interpretive photography ?
This last line does not sound grammatically correct - not sure how to say it!

I've commented on grammar and punctuation - I'll come back t think about content.

Live one day at a time -it's simpler that way.
Laugh loud & often - it's medicinal.
Write from the heart - it's therapeutic.
Beauty comes from within - the outer is just skin!

Hi Antony,
Just saw this fascinating poem. I've read it through twice, but it's too late for me to comment. Feeling dim...

Only one word struck me as sort of old-fashioned.

Maybe technological instead of industrial? But perhaps I've got my timing wrong.

Will be back,

The Lord replied, my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.

"There is no life higher than the grasstops
Or the hearts of sheep, and the wind
Pours by like destiny, bending
Everything in one direction."

Sylvia Plath, Crossing the Water, Wuthering Heights.

Grammar alterations made. Couldn't use technological landscape as post digital is technology itself, so industrial suffices

OK, Antony. Thanks!

I still don't quite grasp the content of your poem. Just when it all seems clear to me, the next line confuses me. And so on.

Perhaps a little explanation would help?

My problem is with the issue of time. As in L3, you use present tense in "though they still laugh", but it appears "they" will be 50 and "we" will be long time buried.
Dunno...doesn't seem synchronised to me.

The poem is about using slide film. Its process is a chemical contaminate. I persist with slide, because of its image qualities. I imagined future generations regarding this as environmentally embarrassing and that my slides would have no value. In angst the poem tries to imagine a future world, where my slides are retrospectively are seen to represent freedom, for mind control is predicted for future generations i.e. a post digital world infers to photographic chips in people, going to a prescribed CPU, real mind control.

Thanks so much, Antony. I think perhaps part of my problem is that we use a few different terms, to the ones in your poem. The Spanish equivalents can vary, sometimes based on the USA's style.
Never mind, I understand now. I hope chips and mind control never happen!
