Deserted

Once more I feel that agonizing pain
as poetry and prose meet their demise
on yet another site. This sad refrain
repeats itself no matter how one tries

to staunch the exodus. Where shall I fly
for solace or to whom should I appeal
when they’re all gone without a faint “good-bye”?
Once more I feel!

Apart from it's being a perfect Short Rondeau, Larry, you express the sadness that the few of us left at MM are experiencing.

Eira worked so hard bringing in new members from a website that closed, but she got no thanks for the trouble she took. She sent e.mails to at least a dozen poets. They all came to MM, but now they've faded away..."without a faint Good-bye".

Sad, indeed. I can give you some links to other sites. But I find the poetry posted in them quite poor. Haven't explored them properly. Hate to abandon our MM ship.

Lori is into other interests. She's joined a group that has "Medieval Events" all over the USA and Europe. She hand-sews her own medieval clothes and they all meet for ancient banquets in parks or fields, have loads of fun! Members dress themselves in the appropriate garments and eat the correct food, using their hands or maybe some rustic knives.

I wouldn't mind joining them...but I dislike sewing, especially by hand! And I'm too far away. I've seen quite a bit on Facebook. Miss most of the news because I don't go to FB much.

Lori is also job-hunting and has a great boyfriend. Too busy to administrate MM. To think she was posting every day some years ago, so enthusiastically. I miss her.

BTW, Facebook is now full of poetry groups. I guess that's why websites "meet their demise"... The ones I've visited are fairly slow, but not as slow as MM.

My own absence here has been due to computer troubles. I've finally purchased a new one and I'm delighted with it!!

Do keep on writing your Rondeaus, Sonnets, Villanelles and all the rest. I've got a new challenge to set up in Acropolis, hope to do it tomorrow, Monday.

Cheers, Syl butterfly.gif

Hi Syl,

Yes, it is sad that sites like this will soon be extinct due to “social media”. I didn’t know who had invited the poets from the other site but I do appreciate their efforts. Like you said, they too have faded away into the night.

I have tried a number of sites; possibly a few you would share with me but I will stay here until the take down the site. I like MM for a number of reasons (probably too many to list). One was Lori and her genre of poetry which I enjoyed very much. Perhaps she drops by without signing in to see what is going on every once in a while. One can only hope she has not totally abandoned the child she birthed.

Medieval re-enactment is a big thing and it fits her style of poetry to a “T”. I don’t “do” Facebook, Twitter, etc. It feels like I’m putting all my business on the street. I’m too private a person to condone that type of exposure.

Glad you got a new computer. Maybe it will help you post that challenge in Acropolis.
I have been looking every day to see if you have done so but nothing yet.

I will keep posting as long as my muse allows. Incentive helps a lot and Daniel’s occasional goad with retorts to my post keep me going with the rest of the site is deserted.
I’ll brush away the cobwebs in a few of the other forums from time to time.

As long as a few of us left, others may join our little internet family and we can grow once more in numbers and new prose and poetry.

Larry

Hi Larry,

I didn't know that Medieval re-enactment is such a great thing in western countries.
No wonder Lori is enjoying herself so much.

In our southern "New World" that's impossible. Yet the USA is also a New World country and it seems to have taken on all the same. Probably due to the first pilgrims telling medieval tales to the younger generations.

Where I live, the Spanish Conquest is not celebrated in any way. We recently celebrated our Bicentenary of independence from the royalist spanish armies, that is, on July 9th. Attached File  BANDERA_ARGENTINA_FLAMEANDO.gif ( 21.69K ) Number of downloads: 1

On the other hand, first nations indigenous people stage protests proclaiming they have nothing to celebrate, which indeed they haven't. They're getting more powerful because they've joined up with indigenous peoples from all over the world. Their representatives in the U.N. are educated, speak several languages and are making notable progress in reclaiming their rights and lands (which constitutes all of the American continent!).

I apologize about delaying the latest challenge. We're being snowed under, and some high winds, almost blizzards, produced power cuts, no Internet and candlelit evenings. Days are so short! Today my daughter Diana managed to use her car and we stocked up on provisions because the weather will continue to be very cold and snowy for some weeks. Good for the skiing season, except that our airport had to be closed down briefly, and no planes are flying during the night. Complicated also on the highways into Bariloche. Snow ploughs working constantly and salt is strewn daily all over the place!

Hey, try to get Merlin and Daniel to do the challenges! Point them in that direction ===

Cheers, Syl butterfly.gif

Hi Larry & Syl (or anyone else that may come here)

It is with sadness that I read your poem Larry - words so true. I feel I owe folks an explanation as I am also having computer problems which makes it difficult (and not so rewarding) each time I come here.

Also, I have a 'bug' this week. Mike's had a dreadful cold (he hardly ever gets ill, but when he does, its bad!) I thought I was ok as I've had a cold this summer, but yesterday had to go to bed. Today, I feel somewhat better, except for aching limbs. I came here feeling depressed and reading this thread has not helped my mood.

Yes, I managed to get the poets from TCP in November (seems long ago now) It was exciting when they came here but everyone seems to have left. Luc did mention in one thread that it was lack of participation that he had gone. Well, I tried my best!

I will be around when I can, but my muse is on the blink as well as my computer.

Thank you, Syl, for sorting out the challenges. You are a star!

Hugs to you both

Eira

I will not leave, though seldom I am here
of late, because the pressures of our move
increase with progress slow as fall draws near
when daughter's children start new school. Behooves

us to speed up, so soon I will move in
to cut commuting down and help achieve
completion with my son without chagrin.
I will not leave.

You’ll Know

I hope you know your reassurance brings
me peace of mind although I am aware
that you are fixing up a house with dings
and are too busy to come here and share

your thoughts. I see our numbers shrank to five
tenacious poets who refuse to go
as long as this mosaic can survive.
I hope you know!
