We're in the kitchen making treats;
to grace our table with lots to eat.
The table is set with glittering glass
as we prepare the Christmas repast.
A festive tablecloth with a holiday motiff
and a centerpiece of candle and wreath.
Simple adornments to set the mood
for a holiday meal with the family brood.
I'll stuff the turkey and glaze the ham;
fill delicate pastries with delicious jams.
We must have pies. Several kinds.
Pecan and Pumpkin are on our minds.
Fudge and divinity are in a lovely dish.
A variety of nuts sit out if you wish.
Pralines are also out for a nibble;
along with peppermint canes and brittle.
A fruit salad is topped with whipped cream,
chilled and waiting like a snowy white dream.
The tart cranberry salad is also prepared;
it'll be great when the turkey is shared.
Kids cut the cookies into holiday shapes.
The oven is hot, they'll need to bake.
We have colored frostings to decorate;
or candy sprinkles to make them look great.
Sweet potatoes baking will add some spice;
topped with butter and marshmallows ~the smell is so nice.
On stove top simmers the giblet gravy.
The corn-on -the-cob is heating like crazy.
My sister is baking her buttered rolls;
My in-laws, a vegetable casserole.
My mother adds her cornbread dressing.
Time to eat....let's say the blessing.
