Cogito ad absurdum.

I think I thought but was not sure.
To be a thought it must endure
within your mind until you see
it is not passing hurriedly.

I know that I was never taught
the way that I should think a thought.
My teachers never said to me
this is a thought it’s plain to see.

My mind and brain both entertain
the thought that I should think again
I would do, if I knew how to,
That’s why I’m asking you

Can you instruct me in the art?
of telling different thoughts apart.
If you could teach me so I knew
I would be most grateful to you.

I think, I think but I don’t know
and I would gladly undergo.
Any training course that I could find
If it would clarify my mind.

How can I recognise a thought,
I don’t know how, I was not taught.
I think ,that you might think me mad,
I think that is the thought I had.

This thinking is a strange old game
I wonder if you feel the same
or are you certain that you think.
Oh I give up I need a drink.

piers,
Life can be a mix up for sure.
This is well put.
I added a collections of latin phrases which are excerpts from a poem I did on another site. knight.gif

"I think I thought but was not sure."

Love that line. Anyway, love the word play. When I was younger, I used to thinnk about that. I would spend long periods of time thinking about how it  is that I'm "thinking" .... weird.. anyway, good job!

Dear PP

Nice stuff, and only one nit :

I think, I think but I don’t know
and I would gladly undergo.
Any training course that I could find
If it would clarify my mind.

This line seems too long, and could easily be :

Any training I could find

or

Any course that I could find

without changing the meaning at all !

Love
Alan ..... I think !

Well I don't know about the rest, but I thought that it was jolly well thought out.
I think?
I was so confident before, but now I've read it twice, I'm not sure what I think.
Actually it dances delightfully and just screams for some form of iambic meter.

The first stanza sets the tone. Keep to that rhythm and you have a very funny rib tickler.

the thought that I should think again
I would do, if I only knew,
and this is why I’m asking you

Can you instruct me in the art?
of telling different thoughts apart.
If you could teach me so I knew
I would be most obliged to you. Obliged carries the stress better. See?

I think, I think but I don’t know
and I would gladly undergo.
A training course if I could find
that it would clarify my mind.

How can I recognise a thought,
I don’t know how, I was not taught.
I think() that you might think me mad,  Dump the comma.
I think that is the thought I had.

This thinking is a strange old game
I wonder if you feel the same
or are you certain that you think.
Oh I give up ! I need a drink ! Exclamation marks to denote exasperation also provide a dramatic pause.
