The Mayhem Poets will soon have their opening night.

The Poets, a team of spoken word artists from Jersey City, won the top prize in Microsoft's best small business idea in a nationwide competition, a victory which will entitle them to $100,000 in startup capital, a rent-free storefront in New York City along with a comprehensive suite of Microsoft software and services.

The team plans to open a spoken-word restaurant with nightly performances and themed menus along the lines of dinner theater, except the patrons will hear poetry instead of watching a performance or play.

Hey John,

This is great news! I wish we had something like this here in Jeddah. Arabic poetry has a lot of potential here, but english is another story. There are no workshops and nothing to encourage the young english writing arab poets.

Anyway, Times are changing and maybe somehthing will happen soon.

It's wonderful to know that poetry is reaffirming it's value.

Hugs
Dani

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.
