Hard-hearted Options

I thirst for a drink of
encouragement
but the decanter of your love is
bone dry.

I hunger for a nibble of  
wisdom
but the core of your intelligence
is unfruitful.

I yearn to say, “Happy Father’s Day” to your
gentle face
but a voiceless response is assured.

I pray to embrace your handsome 6 foot frame
but instead
I hug a cold, heartless gravestone of                                
unfeeling.

Oh God Lindi,

I read this and wept like a baby. I'm a bit emotional these days and this triggered so many memories and heart aches...

I love it! We have both shared the pain of our loss.

May God give you strength to remember, and yearn with as little pain as possible.
