In compote, I am too old to run, but it never was really much fun. Yet I eat it sometimes, but it won't ring my chimes... though with whipped cream it can't be outdone.

Oops! Alan himself just wrote one while I watched SNL! I'm undone! So I'll try it again ere he gets out his pen... but I'm sure he'll still hit a home run.

To a boy, baseball's what he calls fun in the US in summer; the sun has a pleasant effect as his playmates connect with the kid when he hits a home run.
"Hit a home run" can be metaphor for accomplishing something -- outscore your opponent, or play higher hand, or some way do outstandingly well. It ain't war!

To be outstanding in certain fields it takes luck or some specialized skills. To succeed where most fail is like war. To excell, you accept what your effort reveals.

All except what our effort reveals may be grace that our bias conceals; there's so much that we do that's beyond me and you we can't see it 'til blinders He peals.

Onions having a magnetic field may spin out of control when they're peeled. We must chop them real fine 'till their atoms align when they're sauteed, stir-fried or they're grilled.

I eat grilled, sauteed, blackened and broiled; not in bistros or cafes. I'm spoiled by my wife, if you please, who has HomeEc degrees in food science, et al, she employed.

My home life, when quiet young, was destroyed as my father to war was deployed for the Korean war. Life in that abattoir stained his soul and left his mind a void.

Well, today my mind's also a blur but I'm now wide awake, that's for sure. 4:15 arrived Reese; daughter's pains now have ceased. All is well, as my wife will concur.

Don't project all your stuff upon me or I'll turn you right over my knee; just because you don't help doesn't make me a whelp; I participate well; that's the key.

If men knew all the trouble they cause when the wife asks for help, there's the pause just before he replies with excuses and lies then wakes up needing bandage and gauze.

my dad
from beginning to end of his days he affected me in so many ways for he had no pretense, just total absence and a rather neat turn of fine phrase
