Limerick, Poetic Form Exercise Options

When the greens were left off of his plate
when at school he could not conjugate
all the verbs or remember
until late in November
when the salads returned there of late.

[Larry]

Salad days are too late; no return
to life’s crossroads or bridges that burn
so we’re making to most
of life, ere we are toast
but remember each choice that we spurn.

[JustDaniel]

If I spurn every choice to be made
I'll appear as a donkey who's brayed
for the very last time;
hear the church bells now chime
and the jackass's eulogy said.

[Larry]

Eulogizing a jackass, you said
that you felt it was better off dead
for its sterility
was a pity to see
and desire never came to a head.

[JustDaniel]

What I wrote never came to a head
and computer became nearly dead;
it did "updates", it posted;
PC became toasted.
I think something's now interbred!

[Larry]

Some things now interbred won’t survive
that were born by technology’s drive;
new is soon obsolete
before it hits the street
like the watch-phone. Dick Tracy’s alive?

[JustDaniel]

Dick Tracy had died with my watch
that I lost when it fell through my crotch;
I was riding my bike
and I braked at the pike;
some truck crushed it and made it a blotch.

[Larry]

If some truck made a blotch of your watch
that you wore somewhere close to your crotch
instead of on your wrist;
it won’t slip past your fist
if you tighten the band up a notch.

[JustDaniel]

If you've tightened the band up a notch
on some timepiece you wear in your crotch
I'm afraid that friend Dick
may we getting quite sick;
you should loosen and carefully watch.

[Larry]

A man loosened his watch carefully
and placed it on the night stand to see
how time flies having fun
but he wasn’t quite done
when her husband came home before three.

[JustDaniel]

If your husband comes home before three
I won't be there for his eyes to see.
You are just not my type
even after the hype...
and my wife is quite happy with me.

[Larry]

If your wife is quite happy with me
trading quips with you incessantly
and I don’t interfere
when she calls you, “Dan, dear,
will you take out the old Christmas tree?”

[JustDaniel]

When you find that you can't take a breath
without hitch, and you're thinking of death
to the ER you go
with no Lim'rick to show;
I was fighting pneumonia, doc saith.

If you take out the old Christmas tree
but the next day it's not there to see
but it's out back to burn
and your gut starts to churn
just relax; burning trash is for free.

[Larry]

If pneumonia’s diagnosed by the doc
then it shouldn’t come as a big shock
that the lab’s great creations
of inoculations’
effectiveness was a big crock.

If you’re free to burn trash in your yard
please make sure the wind’s not blowing hard
for some embers take flight
and when landing, they might
burn the stuff you don’t wish to discard.

[JustDaniel]

If you burn what you haven't discarded
it may be that you haven't been guarded
when lighting your match;
local fireman may catch
you, and you won't be highly regarded.

[Larry]

He was highly regarded by ewes
for when frisky, he’d never refuse
a quick romp in the field
but each one had to yield
and stay still for he didn’t wear shoes.

[JustDaniel]

If you're romping without wearing shoes
then your feet will be singing the blues
though your weenie may sing
while it's having a fling;
you won't read about this in the news.

[Larry]

You won’t read about this in the news
and the story won’t likely amuse
that our Daniel’s been sick
but his doctor is slick;
said he’s been on a new moan ya’ cruise.

[JustDaniel]

If you cruise on the new-mown ya hay
you will cough all your weak hours away;
It is better to rest
and give peace to your chest
and keep sneezing and hacks from the fray.

[Larry]

Ants keep Sneezy held back from foray
in the mine where the dwarfs like to stay
so Snow White spread her stuff
‘till the ants had enough
but old Sneezy now wanted to play.
