While his brilliance is far less than certain
he is prone to some laughable blurtin'
if he's had too much drink;
he'll end up in the clink...
for things done without shuttin' the curtain!

doing things without shutting the curtain ?
are we referring to what some call flirtin' ?
if that were not the case
there's be no human race
and we would all have gone for a burton

For a burton I'm sure I'll not go,
'cause to do it I would have to know
what it means, and I don't,
so I'm certain I won't...
or at least 'til my insight should grow!

Dear Daniel,

Love
Alan

will I last till my insight has growed
or at least til some morsel has showed
bit like a phantom limb
as writ by Brothers Grimm
to be scary, like so - al a mode !

Thanks so much for the explanation, Alan. No wonder I didn't understand. It seems that no one really knows the origin of the expression!

If I wrote in Brit slang à la mode
all my readers may think they were snowed
by things they know not;
they wouldn't grasp what
they read; they'd need me to decode.

Once read, I really need to decode
what I've read, poetry, maybe ode
or could it be sonnet
impress girl in bonnet
oh - she rather I was covered in woad !

Are there blue-bloods who cultivate woad?
Do they do it away from the road
so that others can't brew
it to turn themselves blue?
Could agrarians carry the load?

Vats, or barrels can carry the load
and a rather malodourous ode
it turned out to be
so that's why you see
East Anglians live in solitary abode

If you prefer life without others,
some simply will not grasp your druthers.
But it is okay
to do it your way...
but with you there will be no mothers!

then truly blessed are you, for rather

For multiple persons you lust?
Be careful if they have been bussed
to service your needs;
if something new bleeds
you'll find what your doctor discussed.

If your doctor discussed what he found
then I guess you will be duty bound
to ask him for a shot
which may cure what you've got.
If it don't, they'll put you in the ground.

it is likely that you'll stick around

I will tell you first-hand
that your future prospects are unsound.

my future prospects are unsound
I'm like corns of pepper, unground
see - stuck in life's grinder
no direction finder
getting smaller as I'm shuffled around

If you smell like a shuffleboard hound
then your need for a bath is profound.
When you're cleaner, your puck,
I would bet you a buck,
would allow you the champ to be crowned.

If the champ to be crowned is a hound
then don’t be too surprised when he’s found
with his nose in each pose
at the other dog shows
looking like he has seen them around.

it looks like he's seen them around
for they never got off the gound
and that's just as well
it'd be flying hell
if airside, elephants abound

If the elephant's bound with your hair
it is likely he will not be there
when you wake the next day;
few wild animals stay
where you leave them to play solitaire.

If you've left them to play solitaire
and they won, then no one would be there
to amaze with that feat
and they'd have to repeat
'cause your friends would all say "au contraire!"

When your contrary friends spout their say
about things they don't know, what the hay!
You can leave them to prove
all that they disapprove
'til they're blue in the face or turn grey.
