a quest is a search for…

answers
quite often are
used as criteria
explaining how all axioms are clear,
supplanting known facts for simple logic;
this leaves no room for those who reach
incongruity’s steep cliff
seeking truths to
answer

When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the areas of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of his existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy

seeking
clever acrostics
seems to be your forte;
wish I had the inclination
to join you in what's often been great fun
but I've been distracted by pain;
hope yesterday's spinal
gives help I've been
seeking

gives help
when it’s needed
without thought of reward
because he likes his fellow man
and is kind of fond of fellow women
as long as they are not fellows
or had operations
when some surgeon
gives help

surgeon
may offer hope
to a person who's down
and needing relief from his pain;
some surgeries are almost commonplace
while others are beyond the scope
as when strange sex hormones
suddenly start
surgin'

sudden
morning movement
before my first coffee
reminds me that I’m getting old
and must greet each day at a slower pace
especially when work is planned;
today, it’s the back yard
where grass died to
sod in

grass died
in neighbor's lawn
so he did some research
to discover some simple way
to try to keep his lawn green all year round;
after winter's contemplation
he decided to keep
old sod with its
grass dyed

old sod,
aeriated
with some nice top dressing
and a lot of fertilizer
may still become a nice lawn for your yard
and if it doesn’t, compost it
till the seeds germinate
and save lots of
money

money
is nice to have
but it sure isn't grass
and also isn't filled with roots;
it certainly doesn't sound like old sod
so I'm wondering whether dirt
is now lodged in your ear;
doc removes... for
money

rye seed as sprouts is…

removes
young seeds for crop,
escaping composter,
so you will have them growing to
exchange with the dead sod and it helps you
ease the expense when some squares rot;
develop new grasses
and save. Do I
see moves?

Do I
see grass moving
while it grows in seed beds?
To be truthful, I haven't looked.
I prefer to let it do its own thing
knowing that it will become green;
friends will take and plant it
where morns make it
dewy

mourns make
and the model
of the first car I owned
which was a big block Chevrolet
made in fifty-five but it wasn’t stock;
with Holly carbs and Hurst shifter
it would do ninety-five
in seconds on
make's morn

Seconds

that I started out with.
My first was a Renault Dauphine
that I bought at twenty-one in college.
Then Eileen taught me how to drive;
we took Florida's test.
I was first, she
second.

I was
ready to go
to the annual fair
in my small Nebraska home town
where there’s lots of rides and plenty to eat
but decided not to go there
because it was small and
not as big as
Iowa’s

Western Washington State Fair, Puyallup
where daffodils fill the valley
months later in the spring;

wooden
roller coasters
used to be the big thing
at state fairs and amusement parks
but with so many people getting hurt
due to bad maintenance or rot
most of them are now gone;
to ride them, I
wouldn’t

ride them
about their drums
telling them to practice
but only out in the garage;
you love their bent to music but it's loud
and you can only stand so much
yet you must encourage
because they have
rhythm

bystander escapades

because
you cast no votes
says you are myopic
to protest results with your plea
and cry foul when the president is Trump,
not Hillary’s panacea.
Democrats, now dethroned,
ends that old bridge
re-cross

Old Bridge
in East Jersey
a New York bedroom town
is part of Middlesex County,
and it straddles the Raritan River
where the Lenni Lenape camped;
its old South River Bridge
came to be called
Old Bridge

came to
the conclusion
that cajoling members
you may find posting on Facebook
is an exercise in futility
because they never read your rant
and most are city folks
who never liked
to come

never
write one of these
without using the same
word or sound with which you started
to end the thought of your rictameter;
this is the second time that you
have done something that one
should again do
never!
