Will you
always assume
that I have the same depth
of background with literature
that you have obtained in years of reading?
I've read very little because
my eyes refuse to spend
much time in that
milieu.

Missing is Egregious

Much time,
inferred reading
supposes the reader
sits for hours with books in their face
instead of living; experiencing
nothing but fact and fiction. I
glean knowledge as I go
in ways like you
such times

Egregious derives from the Latin word egregius, meaning "distinguished" or "eminent." In its earliest English uses, egregious was a compliment to someone who had a remarkably good quality that placed him or her eminently above others. That's how English philosopher and theorist Thomas Hobbes used it in flattering a colleague when he remarked, "I am not so egregious a mathematician as you are." Since Hobbes' day, however, the meaning of the word has become noticeably less complimentary, possibly as a result of ironic use of its original sense. (Encyclopedia Britannica)

In ways
boxing’s a sport
like the gladiators
who fought in the colosseum
except for the use of wild animals;
who are now kept out of the ring
and don’t know the fight game
so announcer
weighs in

responses with intelligence
to match the thoughtful things that he'll produce
while I'm away and plodding on;
my bulges still hang out;
don't know how much
he weighs

to wish

I find your writing style

not all

and washed Louisiana’s foot
until humanity
felt all of her
