ramp lad
greets visitors
at the Scottish bull fight
which no one has ever herd of
before the writing of this lone poem;
when it's all done the bull is kilt
with a shillelagh knob
and killer wears
ram plaid

ram plied
all of his wiles
when he saw big horn sheep
climbing on the mountain’s steep side
but he and his hoofs were not in good shape
and after a very short chase
he had an accident
and sheep saw the
ram piled

ram piled
into the sheep
to attempt some mating
but they weren't about to have it
so they pushed themselves together to force
the frustrated creature back out
from their amassed bodies
and laughed at where
ram piled

[Larry]

rum’s plied
sailors for years
to do a better job
because it makes them happier
and sea legs work better when they are drunk
so captains buy it by the keg
and if they figure right
all that’s left is
piled drums

riled drums
pound in your head
as they turn up the bass
and your house rocks as their cars pass;
you wonder how they could not all be deaf --
and then you realize: they are;
that's why they play so loud:
they've grown deaf from
riled drums

drums rolled
and trumpets played
as football season starts
wakening the couch potato
from summer re-runs and vapid game shows
giving sports nuts alternatives
to golf, baseball, tennis…
escaping from
doldrums

doled rum
has side effects:
folks don't appreciate
the cost of its preparation
so everyone in the tavern gets drunk
and they all claim to understand
that global warning hype
the instrument
Dole drums

dorms dull
the homesickness
of being on your own
by providing a family;
giving you a sense of togetherness
but only if it is co-ed
because segregation
from the girls will
dull dorms

mall marms
watch the teeners
where they tend to gather
keeping them out of some trouble
and helping them with various problems;
occasionally there are some
rabid rabble-rousers
who would rather
maul marms

[Larry]

mail harms
the carriers
toting those heavy sacks
or pushing those small three-wheeled carts
down bumpy sidewalks and up and down curbs
making them all hot and sweaty
even deodorant
doesn’t help much
arms smell

butts smell
from accidents
that may happen daily
as certain subjects get older
and it becomes more difficult to clean
up behind themselves when it does;
this all makes you wonder
why dogs love to
smell butts

[Larry]

smell beats
having to taste
something that might be spoiled
and no matter how many times
you rinse with a flavored mouthwash
the palate and taste-buds perceive
so reading the label’s
expiration
beats smell

greet smell
with thankfulness
at the store bakery
where the aroma of bread wafts
through the air tantalizing your nostrils
and tempts you to look at pastries
and those cinnamon rolls
next to pies with
great smell

[Larry]

grapes smell
when they’re cooking
to make some good jelly
and the juice can be fermented
to make a passable liquor or wine
but I make the jellies and jams
because the alcohol
takes too long to
smell grapes

small gropes
went unnoticed
and it became a nudge:
would a few more be unwelcome?
so to a hand grab he added a pinch
for good luck... but it wouldn't be
since behavior like that
is frowned on in
small groups

[Larry]

mall groups
gather to shop
like predators hunting
and when they spot something they like
you’d better not be in their path because
they push and run over people
to purchase what they want
so remember
groups maul

poop smells
like rotten food
because that's what it is
having been processed inside you
and pushed through foot after foot of tubing
until the odor concentrates
and produces gasses;
farts make them all
smell poop

[Larry]

smelt pop
when you fry them
because they are oily
and not very good food
but if that is all you can catch
you might be able to use them for bait
to catch a tastier species
like tuna or sea bass
but if you can’t,
pop smelt

pops melt
in summer sun
like a cool ice cream cone;
sickles taste better than pickles
when the weather is warm but in winter
who doesn't suck on a pickle
or give Fats a big hug
to make ole Grand

Pops met
mom long ago
but he still hasn’t learned
he’ll never win an argument
because even if wrong, she’s always right
and the stubbornness Pops displays
resembles his black eye
caused when the pan
met Pops
