Augustus Pluvious

The woods are lovely. Rain began pelting
this poor poet hiking to no destination,
and I bent in the undergrowth like a dim-wit rabbit.
Spindles of water unraveled upon me
but I shook it off, arched my back
and since nothing gold can stay, nor rain,
I braved the wet and went my weary way.
A small bird flew by.

And the shade of trees protects a long abandoned
church. Rain to wash the steps that have fallen
into disrepair... its door is locked and windows
boarded; of the great harvest once promised, no sign.
And I went my weary way. Some say
the world
will end in fire where
our place among the infinities
is but one luminary clock tick-tock.

And I went my merry way as the sun returned
and had that flower – that faithful meadow flower
firmly in its grasp to where your face burns
and tickles
with delight.

Hi Merlin,

Finally, after nearly 8 years, someone else has used all 12 of the snippets. I've re-read your open form
post a number of times and enjoyed the hike in the rain. Still can't figure out where the title "Augustus Pluvious"
came from but, as with a lot of your posts, it takes a lot of thought to figure out where you're going.

Enjoyed

Larry

Hi Larry,
thank you for stopping to read.

Augustus Pluvious was hiking along the trail thru the woods, methinks. I hear it's lovely there.

1. At the moment, I am still fooling about with the minnesänger. Augustus is not one, but they have interesting names and I had to come up with a title as above. Minnesänger were knights or monks or both back in the 1100s, 1200s, and perhaps a little either direction of those. There's a wealth of written work available from them, unlike early English literature which numbers 10 or so - Beowulf, Piers Plowman, and a few more only.

2. Many many moons back I did crossword puzzles as a pastime. As with anything, practice makes perfect, and while I wasn't, I can say I had gotten very skilled. One clue/word stumped me completely. The clue was "rain - or rainy?", eight letters. I was dumbfounded because when it is raining, it's raining and that's it. When the answer became known, it was "pluvious", from the French "pluvier" (? sp) meaning to rain. Eight letters. Hoping I got those detail correct as it's a long time back.

3. Augustus Pluvious was born. Raining in August.

4. Check out Hora Crepuscular in case she makes an appearance.

(correction to the text - minne-singers has an "a-umlaut" which got corrupted here.)
