Ain't it nice to have almost exclusive use of a site?
Here's another Tonka using the 10 T words... I'll even color 'em fur ya.
It's a sonnet. I had to engage the other half of the brain to find a serious use of those 10 words. They seemed to work into light verse without much effort, but not so into more serious work. Waddoya think?

Dumpling

Society and junk: oh, what we toss!
A chest of drawers that’s hardly got a scratch;
a loveseat, sofa, cushions all to match;
a plastic bottle full of chocolate sauce;
an amber vase that’s lost most of its gloss;
a clock, it has a nick you could still patch;
a box of books (I hope they read a batch).
How this can all go on, I’m at a loss.

My friend, it’s crazy in our well-heeled age;
we’ve prospered far beyond our daily needs
and live in comfort, clicking the remote.
It was the Bard who said, “the world’s a stage”,
the show goes on at record breaking speeds
and when it stops, we better have a boat!

Good Morning Merlin,

A very nice Petrarchan Envelope/French sonnet variant which deals with the current "world" problem of planned obsolescence. Our careless actions and our need for instant gratification; our flippant disregard for what happens to cast-offs and waste will, I think, preclude the use of a boat. We'll all need snow shoes and/or life jackets (which I'm sure we can find in abundance on the piles of debris).

Your title... pure tongue in cheek! Your poem brings many more possibilities to mind such as: Tick Tock Sick, Dumb Stirs, etc. The future archaeological digs (millennias from now) if anyone can survive, will be a gold mine of both information and raw materials.

Sorry, I fell on a discarded soap box and couldn't get off without a bit of venting.

Oh, you are not alone; just the most prolific!

Sincerely, I did enjoy your precise IP and your ability to craft a serious poem from the hodge-podge of given words.

Larry

When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the areas of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of his existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

Love these poems that are written to a set of random prompts (I am presuming this was what was going on here ) I think sometimes they are the best because they make us use the brain and we have no preconceived idea as to what we are going to write - The muse strikes, the words fall, write them as you will and hey presto Well done Merlin - love it and a true depiction of our throw away society. goodjob.gif

Cheers

Maureen is right, Merlin.

I love what you've come up with here, and Larry's titles are excellent too. What more can I say?!!!

Sorry I'd overlooked dropping in on you. I'd say more, but just now I'm heading out the door to an ESL class I help in.

Hi, and thanks for looking in on the dump!

I agree, Maureen, and enjoyed seeing what I could create using the set words. There were several different forms I did in these, mainly to see what variations I could do. The muse was thereby also put into motion, rather than having to begin at zero - it had the prescribed words to work with.

Happy ESLing, Daniel. I missed the wassailing this year - a bit too cold if I remember. No problem re overlooking - the posting is about 10 mos old!

Aha!!! I didn't see the date. Maureen must have dredged this one up...

but clearly she was not bottom-feeding! This is a remarkably tight piece and clever, so your muse back then was nicely energized considering that you and Larry were virtually alone back then!

I hope you'll look in on one of mine here that is in danger of sinking to the bottom too!
