Psalm of the Procrastinator

There’s always tomorrow,
always –

in a blink the scene opens
to satin sheets in conversant bed
and bedmate’s mornings said,
another day’s lace stricken.

Always -
there’s tomorrow again,

one more chance to be saved
from the legacy and debt,
who is hurt and who’s wept,
roads left standing unpaved.

And still there is tomorrow,
always –

until the day there isn’t,
then…in the eye of judgment,
in light of past postponement,
the entanglement and tatter,

what does it matter
in other morrows?

Hi Tao,

It's one to think over.

My preference would have been to use 'tomorrow' at the end, instead of 'morrow'.

You used nice, sublte alliteration.  I'm unclear about the legacy, it doesn't seem to relate to anyone around it.

All in all, one I enjoyed.

Hi David wave.gif

Well I can totally identify with this..there's always something crucial I'm going to get my act together and do...tomorrow!!!!

Although I think this poem is probably about more than minor things that need to be done somehow!
roads left standing unpaved.  I could see in this poem, all those things that need to be said or done..the really heart-felt and important things that we think we have all the time in the world for.

Great point in the last lines!

in a blink the scene opens
to satin sheets in conversant bed
and bedmate’s mornings said,
another day’s lace stricken.
 Really loved these lines also

Great work sun.gif

"What could have made her peaceful with a mind
That nobleness made simple as a fire,
With beauty like a tightened bow, a kind
That is not natural in an age like this,
Being high and solitary and most stern?
Why, what could she have done, being what she is?
Was there another Troy for her to burn?"
WB Yeats "No Second Troy"

Greetings Merlin, Wizard.gif

How goes it up the coast? sun.gif

I'll give the "tomorrow" ending some thought. I must say "morrows" threw the repetition out a little. I was hoping to use the "futures" definition of the word.

Legacy referred again to things done and undone, a history. Often, it's used to describe the issues left unresolved by parents to the children, but also to describe an accomplishment left behind. I compared it to debt, one is emotional, the other financial, one an asset, the other, well, owed.

Hope that helps. Thank you for the comments. sings.gif

Ah, the Irish Flower returns,

Always the sweet words, always the compliments, I shall be forever drunk with my self-image. Speechless.gif

to satin sheets in conversant bed - I had embroidered sheets before, but line was getting too long! Turned out, satin goes better with lace. Not too many can afford silk anymore. :)

This is kind of a "life is but a dream" statement. Yes, things left undone, large and small - take my dog to the vet for his shots, car needs an oil change, call my mother, make up with my brother - kind of thing. All the best-laid plans, how many people get to say, "I'm done with everything I planned,” on their last day? down.gif

Sorry to be so depressive. Thinking deep again – ouch, that hurts. Wall.gif

But, here's some sunlight to brighten your day. sun.gif  sun.gif  sun.gif
