Possible Service Outages, 8/27 - 8/29 2011, Storm's approachin! Options

Greetings all,

For those who aren't in the US, there's a large hurricane approaching (Irene) the Eastern US coastline, and the current predicted tracks are taking the eye track somewhere between central Massachusetts and Albany, NY.

Although there is a battery backup system for the server and it's connection equipment for short term power outages, any power outage over 2 hours will likely deplete the batteries. With the winds and/or flooding rains expected, there's also always the chance that downed lines elsewhere can disrupt connectivity to the site until repaired.

I'll be keeping an eye on things and will do what I can to keep service running or have any outages restored as quickly as possible should the site go offline.

Course, now that I've typed this it'll probably miss us completely, but if something happens don't worry, the gnomes will be hard at work behind the scenes fixing things up as quick as possible.
