Toying with Words

I love to try to toy with words,
it's not a game for kids or nerds.
It's poetry these words imply,
to toy with words, I love to try.

A rondeau ends where it begins,
a rondeau's round and if it spins
its roll extends 'til torque expends.
Where it begins, a rondeau ends.

A rondeau stops where it began,
a ball of words, the bardly plan...
But what about some two-phrase swaps?
Where it began, the rondeau stops.

A quatrain swap, I think I mean!
The rondeau, I know, is old routine.
Just take four feet, then two you flop.
I think I mean a quatrain swap!

This is a very clever poem. I am not equipped (educated) or familiar with the quatrain's or rondeau's (I have not attempted to write one writersblock.gif ) but my gut feel is that you have done a sterling job and I say 10/10! dance.gif

You are witty in this poem and have achieved a concentrated interest on the part of the reader as to where and what you will write/say next... Excellent.

(Just 'Snoopying' around snoopy.gif )

Keep writing!

Words are a poets stock in trade
and what a good job you have made
In penning this swap quatrain
I think I shall have to try again
I enjoy rondeaus too
I have written quite a few
To exercise my brain
I think I shall have to try again/

Enjoyed this immensely Ron

I agree... your good wit words... well!

Ron dough is what you bake so well
that hardly anyone can tell
you mixed until it makes a cake
so well, Ron. Dough is what you bake!

Dear Peterpan,
You've got it! Here at MM there are many advocates of serious poetry whereas I'm a light verser with wit as a major goal.
Personally, I think the swap quatrain is the only form in competition with the limerick for those who promote wit over elegance/eloquence.
Thanks for the boost!

Dear Daniel,
Talk about wit!
Nicely done, nicely done, nicely done!
Cheers to all, Ron jgd

Very well done Ron! The flow is smooth and makes it so pleasant to read. Not to mention you get your message across as well. I've only written a couple of them myself but I find them fun to do!

Dear PeterPan,
Of course, I could be wring about a swap quatrain being more suitable for light versers.
You're welcome in the pool, the water's fine!

Dear Cathy,
Cleo is looking to add to the collection. Your muse just might agree.
Cheers, ron jgd
