Beached in Encinitas

Two thousand miles, one beach extends
from north to Baja, where it ends.
It woos me with its mystic wiles;
one beach extends two thousand miles.

Red cliffs in Encinitas loom
above the surf; their dwellers groom
fine lawns with flowers; palms rise stiff
in Encinitas. Loom red cliffs.

Cool waters pound near-empty shore
where thousands swarmed two months before.
Handfuls of tourists still are found
near empty shore. Cool waters pound.

The soaring seagulls' flight has mist
to disappear into; they've kissed
the sun and clouds until my sight
has missed the soaring seagulls' flight.

Green succulents with ivies scale
down walls of clay; steep stairs with rails
give access to their residents
with IV's: scale-green succulents.

Lone evergreen -- methinks, a spruce --
permits my mind one brief excuse
to wander north; "I'm pleased you've seen
me," thinks a spruce -- lone evergreen.

Yet, outstretched palms request that my
attention come to them; I sigh,
for Douglas fir are one behest
that my yet-outstretched palms request.

A week from now I will be there
to meet my kin and friends somewhere
'mid Cascades' snow; if they can plow,
I will be there a week from now.

I'm very glad I'm here today
where warmer weather has the sway;
with daughter's gang, I can't be sad
I'm here today. I'm very glad.

I LOVE this poem Daniel.

No snow yet, but we will get you here or I'll meet you somewhere somehow.

Now if we could just swap places, I would not mind a bit of Encinita sun

Dear Daniel,
Your poetry always mystifies me! It reminds me of those words on the radio presenting "The Shadow"- remember, Lamont Cranston learned in the orient how to
xxxxx men's mind's so that they cannot see him". Same with any nits in your pieces.
Why, because I focus on those magnificant, inventive lines where you split sentences in ways no one else could ever think of!
Nicely done! cheers, ron jgd

Thanks so much, Cyn. I'm hoping the snow holds off until I get onto the WEST side of them so that I can look BACK on it... but I'm a comin' either way! I'll be in touch with you soon.

We're headin' to Sea World within the hour for a day there in San Diego. Lookin' forward to that. I met some of Jose's family last night and spent a long time talkin' with one who lives just a few minutes from the beach in Encinitas, so he recognized excatly what I was writing about!

P.S. And I just learned last night that Eileen has promised DoriAn that she's gonna visit out here in May... so looks like I'll be back. (She's a bit afraid of airplanes.)

Thank you for that supreme compliment, friend Ron! I hope you know that I love your writing and your love for poetry both! You're an inspiration. I'll keep that 'The Shadow' metaphor in mind too!
